A Beck Application Engineer is a technical specialist who serves as the critical bridge between customers, the sales team, and internal engineering and production departments. This role focuses on translating customer requirements into practical, reliable, product solutions, recommending optimal actuator configurations, and providing expert technical guidance throughout the sales and implementation process. The position demands a strong blend of mechanical / electrical engineering knowledge, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. This role is ideal for engineers who enjoy direct customer interaction, thrive in a collaborative employee-owned culture, and are passionate about delivering engineered solutions that solve real-world control challenges.Primary Responsibilities:
The role begins with a structured training phase focused on mastering the Beck product line, the industries served, and actuator applications. Once foundational knowledge is established, the Application Engineer will independently field customer inquiries, provide technical support, and deliver quotations. Initial site visits and trade show participation will be conducted alongside experienced team members. As competency grows, the engineer will assume full ownership of the following responsibilities: Develop and maintain expert knowledge of industries served by Beck and the processes where Beck actuators are applied Become a technical product and application expert for the Beck product family Conduct detailed application reviews and technical consultations with customers and Sales/Application teams Prepare accurate product specifications, quotations, and submittals Support pre- and post-sale activities including troubleshooting and sizing calculations Provide occasional field start-up assistance, training, troubleshooting to ensure proper installation and operation of Beck actuators as required Prepare design requests for engineering to support customer orders Support field Sales Engineering efforts Perform Municipal Water/Wastewater project management from inception through commissioning Collaborate with Customer Service team to ensure seamless order fulfillment and customer satisfaction Attend occasional industry trade shows as an exhibitor Contribute to special projects supporting new product development, marketing, website content, literature, instructions, or social media Perform additional duties assigned to meet changing organizational needsProfessional and Personal Requirements:
5-10 years of industrial experience in an electro-mechanical role preferred Electro-mechanical aptitude Excellent verbal and written communication skills Excellent time management and organizational skills Must be an internally motivated and driven individual Knowledge of process industries including water/wastewater, electric utilities is preferred Experience with municipal project coordination/management preferred Proficiency with ERP systems, Microsoft Office Suite, Salesforce preferredEducation Requirements:
Engineering or Engineering Technology degree, BSME or BSEE preferredWork Environment:
Predictable and reliable attendance required during a typical M-F 40-hour workweek Occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required as job duties demand Office environment requiring ability to stand, sit and walk for extended periods Speak and listen to others in person and over the phone Use keyboard and read from computer, screen and reports Travel to customer site as required by Supervisor Regular exposure to manufacturing areas requiring personal protective equipment Capable of climbing ladders and navigating in a plant environment Capable of lifting and moving equipment up to 50 lbs.Advancement Path:
