Non-Exempt Job Description:
The Hotline Advocate overall responsibilities include crisis intervention, information and referral 24 hours a day, seven days a week, on a hotline that belongs to the shelter. The specific duties of the Hotline Advocate / PT Hotline Advocate are as follows: Hotline Answers and logs all crisis calls, business calls, and all informational calls. Responsible for sending phone messages to appropriate staff. Admits and orients new guests to the shelter. Provide crisis intervention, safety planning, and referrals for callers on the crisis line. Logs needed and important information about guest and shelter activity into Apricot and Daily Log. Monitors and allows access into shelter facility via on-site camera system and mag lock gates. Maintains cleanliness and organization of hotline office. Assist in receiving and storing donations as needed or requested. Insures that the shelter is secure by locking all exits and using alarm system as instructed. Night and Weekend Hotline Advocate (addition to duties included in A.) Mediates and resolves disputes between individuals if they occur. Insures the guests complete their maintenance requirements-weekly chores in a timely manner. Conducts nightly room checks; complete nightly census. Provide guest with personal care items when requested. Insures that the shelter is secure by locking all exits and using alarm system as instructed. All other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
The Hotline Advocate will have the following minimum qualifications: High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent Demonstrated understanding of domestic violence as it affects women, children and families. This may have been obtained through experience or training. Ability to use effective communication skills required for position Ability to work with a cultural and diverse individuals and groups Ability to compile basic reports; computer skills preferred Ability to climb stairs and implement emergency procedures when needed Demonstrated Team player who works well with staff, residents and volunteers
Training:
All WCF employees must complete eighteen hours of core domestic violence training conducted by the Arkansas Coalition against Domestic Violence (ACADV) within nine months of their hire date. Thereafter, staff must receive three hours of ACADV approved ethics training every two years. Annually, after the first year of employment, employees are required to seek out and attend ten hours of continuing education that will assist in effectively performing their duties. WCF will pay for required training and all must be approved by the Executive Director.
