We're known for listening first, designing together, and delivering with integrity — and for building the kind of relationships where clients, contractors, and consultants have fun working with us. Ours is a non-hierarchical studio where every voice matters, where emerging designers work alongside 30-year veterans, and where the work we do — civic, healthcare, commercial, hospitality, residential, and historic preservation — has genuine impact on the places and people we serve. The Opportunity We're looking for an experienced Architect to take a leadership role on complex, multi-phase projects and help shape WRD's next chapter. This is a role for a licensed Architect — or near-licensed — Architect-in-Training who brings both technical depth and genuine curiosity: someone who can lead a project from concept through construction with calm authority, build lasting client relationships, and lift the team around them. At WRD, leadership doesn't mean hierarchy. It means accountability, mentorship, and delivering with integrity. What You'll Do Lead projects from schematic design through construction administration — owning quality, schedule, and budget Build and maintain trusted client relationships, serving as a consistent, reliable presence throughout the project lifecycle Author and coordinate complete construction document sets with technical accuracy and code compliance Mentor junior staff, share knowledge openly, and contribute to a studio culture of continuous growth Collaborate with firm principals on design direction, proposals, and client development Manage consultant coordination, RFI and submittal review, and field issue resolution during construction What We're Looking For 5+ years of professional experience in an architectural firm Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture (B.Arch or M.Arch) Licensed Architect (State of California) preferred; near-licensure candidates with strong experience are also encouraged to apply LEED accreditation or demonstrated sustainable design experience a plus Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Creative Suite Proven ability to manage multiple projects and client relationships simultaneously, without losing the thread on any of them A leadership style that's confident without being hierarchical — you give credit, invite input, and solve problems collaboratively What We Offer Comprehensive health and dental benefits A non-hierarchical studio culture where your voice genuinely matters from day one Active mentorship from senior architects and firm leadership — we invest in people, not just projects Exposure to a wide range of project types and community-based design A clear path toward licensure and a team that will help you get there A workplace where people describe working as "hanging out with friends" — professional, but not corporate How to Apply Send your resume, a cover letter, and three to five work samples (PDF, under 10MB) to with the subject line: Project Architect — [Your Name]. WRD is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
