Herman Coliver Locus Architecture is accepting applications for an experienced Job Captain, 3-5 years HCLA, as a practice, is unusual. By design, 100% of our clients are community-based. Our work is focused in two distinct realms: We balance the ardor and rigor of designing multi-family, supportive housing with wrap-around social services for those most in need (low-income families and seniors, transitional-aged youth, people with disabilities and those experiencing homelessness), with the exhilaration of designing transcendent and exquisitely detailed sacred spaces and their attendant uses, largely, though not exclusively, within the Jewish community. We are a team of 14 design professionals, nationally recognized for our human-centered, sustainable, mission-driven work. We are most distinguished as a civic-minded, community-oriented, award-winning practice. This year, we're actively working on the following projects: 129 supportive independent senior housing apartments with child care on the Laguna Honda Hospital campus in SF 50 apartments of affordable family housing in Half Moon Bay Synagogue renovations in San Francisco and Carmel An early education and community center in the South Bay 136 supportive housing apartments in SF Mission neighborhood 175 apartments for low-income seniors with a community serving banquet hall in SF's Chinatown 118 apartments of affordable family housing in Fremont You would be working on one or more of the first three listed projects.
What we expect of you:
strong design and communication skills extensive familiarity with how a set of construction documents is drawn & assembled an understanding of and curiosity for how buildings are built & detailed a dedication to issues of environmental sustainability & resource efficiency strong, recently honed Revit, AutoCad, and Sketch Up skills (Adobe Creative Cloud a plus) comfort with code analysis, as well as Title 24, CalGreen and ADA regulations experience with Type I, Type III and/or Type V construction an architectural degree from an accredited university comfort with directing/supervising those more junior prior multi-family residential and/or civic/institutional experience from SD through CA a thorough written and spoken command of the English language and architectural terminology a passion for your work a collaborative nature What you can expect of us: opportunities to design the chance to engage with clients, consultants, contractors on job sites mentorship from firm leadership & more senior design and management staff a competitive salary based on level of experience, as well as full benefits a sustainable work / life balance a non-hierarchical, egalitarian work environment a casual, yet rigorous studio culture a focus on continued education great stories Our studio in SOMA is near MUNI, BART and Caltrain.
