Job Description

An employee-owned architecture and design firm with a strong focus on healthcare, education, and civic facilities is seeking an experienced Healthcare Project Manager to join its teams in San Jose and Sacramento. This role is focused on leading medium to large healthcare projects through all phases of delivery while maintaining design integrity, technical excellence, and strong client relationships.

The Project Manager serves as the primary point of contact for clients, oversees budgets and schedules, coordinates multidisciplinary teams, and resolves architectural and construction challenges from planning through construction. This position follows a hybrid schedule, with three days in the office and remote flexibility on Mondays and Fridays.

ResponsibilitiesLead and manage healthcare projects through all phases, including planning, design, documentation, and construction administration.

Supervise and mentor project team members, providing ongoing coaching, feedback, and performance evaluations.

Support senior project leadership and/or the Principal-in-Charge in project oversight, delegation, and decision-making.

Monitor daily team performance, recognizing strong contributions and addressing performance concerns as needed.

Oversee staffing, schedules, budgets, fee management, and billing coordination for assigned projects.

Prepare and manage work plans, staffing projections, schedules, budgets, and project fees for larger-scale projects.

Maintain primary responsibility for client communication, follow-through, and relationship development to support repeat work.

Draft and manage meeting minutes, RFIs, change orders, instruction bulletins, and professional correspondence.

Assist with reviewing client and consultant agreements; support RFP responses and contract and fee negotiations.

Collaborate with design, technical, and production teams to ensure design intent is maintained throughout all phases.

Participate in programming, planning, feasibility studies, and design charrettes.

Coordinate with consultants, contractors, government agencies, and utility providers to support approvals and plan check processes.

Review documents for quality, coordination, code compliance, and alignment with project deliverables.

Evaluate cost estimates, conduct value analysis, and collaborate on scope or budget adjustments.

Oversee preparation of construction documents, specifications, and manage construction administration efforts.

Demonstrate strong construction administration expertise and ensure completeness of specifications.

QualificationsProfessional degree in Architecture from an accredited institution or equivalent experience.

Minimum of 7 years of experience in architectural practice, including document production, coordination, and project management.

Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with clients, consultants, agencies, vendors, and internal staff.

Demonstrated leadership skills, including delegation, mentorship, and respectful team management.

Ability to make sound decisions, explain reasoning, and involve appropriate stakeholders while maintaining momentum.

Proficiency in project documentation, including writing and editing specifications.

Strong self-management skills, including goal setting, prioritization, and time management.

Ability to estimate task hours accurately and complete work within established budget parameters.

Working knowledge of construction administration, building systems, and healthcare project delivery preferred.

Compensation & BenefitsCompetitive base salary range of $85,065 - $127,281, dependent on experience, skills, and location.
