Job Description
The Commercial Studio is seeking an experienced Project Architect to lead project teams, produce well-coordinated drawings and specifications, and communicate effectively with clients, consultants, and contractors. Experience with public safety projects, like fire stations, forensic labs, or public safety headquarters, is preferred, along with a sharp eye for design that elevates the quality and relevance of our work. The ideal candidate is also organized, meticulous about documentation, and confident working independently while remaining open to feedback and direction from Executive Leadership and Principals-in-Charge within Dekker. They should be invested in the success of the team, bringing empathy, compassion, and a collaborative mindset to every interaction. A willingness to take informed risks to improve the work, mentor others, and engage thoughtfully with both the technical and design aspects of a project is essential. Responsibilities Contribute meaningfully to Dekker's ongoing evolution as we grow our impact in public-sector architecture Lead client-focused project teams through all phases, from early concept to construction closeout Strengthen the Studio's capabilities within the public safety and workplace project types Maintain and build long-term client knowledge and relationships that support institutional continuity Mentor and coach junior designers, building the overall capacity of the Commercial Studio Stay curious and bring new ideas, design approaches, and innovations into the conversation Spearhead ongoing, rigorous design research and interdisciplinary team dialogues to promote innovative, unique ideas and elevated design thinking within the Studio Actively participate in cross-office collaboration and contribute to a shared culture of design excellence Qualifications Advanced collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills Ability to turn client ideas into thoughtful, clear visual references, like sketches, drawings, models, and more Professional degree in Architecture or a related field Active architectural license in a U.S. state 5+ years of experience in architectural design and planning, ideally with client-facing and project leadership responsibilities Advanced working knowledge of Revit + a familiarity with the Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, and Adobe Creative Suite Design-specific certifications like
LEED AP, WELL
AP, Fitwel Ambassador, CSI, etc. (recommended) Applicants who currently reside in or near either the Albuquerque- Phoenix
- or El Paso metro areas Hybrid schedule capability
- Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in-office days Authorization to work in the U.
