Gold safety rating. We're looking for a grading and paving superintendent to run dirt and asphalt operations in the field. This is a working superintendent role. We want someone who runs the job from the ground — sets grade, gets on a machine when the job calls for it, and leads crews by doing, not by delegating from the truck. If you'd rather manage from an office than be in the field with your people, this isn't the seat. GC Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
Run grading and paving operations start to finish: clearing, mass excavation, dirt balance, subgrade prep, aggregate base, and asphalt paving to line and grade Lead and build self-perform crews — grade setters, operators, laborers, and foremen Manage equipment allocation, production rates, and daily output across active work Run GPS machine control (Trimble/Topcon) and work off Agtek models and takeoffs Track production, cost codes, and crew time in HeavyJob; handle daily reports and plan management in Procore/Bluebeam Own compaction, density, and grade tolerances to owner and geotechnical spec Enforce SWPPP/erosion control and drive a zero-incident safety culture on every site Coordinate schedule, quantities, and quality with PMs, estimators, and owner inspectors Travel is going to be required 75-90% of the time .
Qualifications:
Proven experience running grading and paving as a superintendent or lead foreman moving up Strong earthwork background — dirt balance, subgrade, base, and asphalt on site and infrastructure work Hands-on equipment ability (dozers, excavators, scrapers, blades, rollers, pavers) Fluency with GPS machine control and grade; comfortable reading plans and running quantities Track record leading crews, hitting production, and holding the line on safety and quality Bilingual English/Spanish and OSHA 30 are both a plus Ability to travel to job sites across California and Arizona Valid driver's license and clean record for a company vehicle. Required to pass pre-employment drug test/background check (This role is subject to federal testing requirements, which requires testing for cannabis despite state law) Candidates must pass a post-offer physical examination to ensure they can perform the essential physical functions of the job Physical Demands - A qualified individual must be able to perform these essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation: Sitting and/or standing/walking for long periods on uneven ground Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds regularly and up to 75 pounds occasionally Twisting, reaching overhead, pulling, pushing Ability to work at heights (e.g., on ladders, scaffolding) and in confined spaces (such as trenches or manholes) as required by the project Use hands to handle tools and heavy equipment, and reach with arms. Specific vision abilities required include close vision (for reading plans/computer screens), distance vision, and depth perception. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities Work Environment This role is outdoors on active construction sites. The employee could be exposed to weather conditions such as heat, cold, and rain, and will work near heavy machinery and moving vehicles The noise level on site is often loud, and the environment may involve dust and fumes. Appropriate PPE (hard hat, safety vest, hearing protection, etc.) is required at all times. Work may occasionally be at heights or in confined spaces The employee is required to follow all safety policies and procedures and to actively participate in safety trainings and meetings. This position is classified as safety-sensitive Must be willing to work overtime or weekends when project deadlines require
