Mid-level Driver's License Bituminous materials Asphalt paving Skid steer loader Clean workspace maintenance Working on construction projects 2 years Road rollers Communication skills Full Job Description Position Summary The Asphalt Operator / Raker is a skilled crew member responsible for hand-spreading and raking hot mix asphalt, operating the screed on the paving machine, and running supporting equipment including a skid steer with grinder attachment and a double steel drum roller. This individual plays a critical role in ensuring proper grade, mat quality, compaction, and finish of asphalt paving installations. They must work closely with the paving foreman and crew to maintain productivity, safety, and job quality across various street, parking lot, and trail paving projects. Key Responsibilities Rake and lute asphalt to ensure proper grade, slope, and smooth transitions Operate screed side of paver to control depth, crown, and width of asphalt mat Check grade with level and assist with transitions and tie-ins Operate skid steer with grinder/mill attachment for edge prep and pavement key-ins Operate double drum asphalt roller for compaction and finish passes Assist with handwork around utility lids, tight spaces, and curb/sidewalk interfaces Shovel and place asphalt in areas inaccessible by machine Monitor mix temperature, truck deliveries, and mat uniformity Assist with breakdown and cleaning of paving machine and tools Maintain clean and safe work area around equipment and crew Submit accurate daily timecard and equipment usage hours Required Qualifications Minimum 2 years of experience on an asphalt paving crew Proficient in asphalt raking, handwork, and transition shaping Experience operating screed, roller, and skid steer with milling attachment Ability to check grade using story pole, laser, or hand level Understanding of compaction techniques and paving sequence Ability to work in hot, fast-paced outdoor environments Strong work ethic and willingness to support overall crew productivity Valid California driver's license and reliable transportation Clear communication skills and team-oriented attitude Preferred Qualifications Experience with public works paving projects and city/agency specs OSHA 10 certification Traffic control setup experience Class A or B license (not required but a plus) Familiarity with tack coat application and basic maintenance of paving tools About B&M Civil B&M Civil is a multi-division civil and mechanical construction firm based in Rancho Cordova.
