Experienced Asphalt Screed Operator - Asphalt Paver Operator

Screed Operator Southern Development & Construction, Inc (SDC) was established 1994 and is a growing private contractor concentrating in complete site development services (underground utility, earthwork and paving) in the Central Florida area for subdivisions, apartments, commercial and public projects. Job Description Operate paving machine and/or screed used for applying asphalt to roadbeds, parking lots, and driveways.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Operate asphalt paver, roller, and or screed to apply asphalt per plan and quality specifications as instructed by foreman to ensure daily schedules/estimates are met.
• Screed operation on the asphalt paver involves making normal adjustments for obtaining proper depth, grade and finished cross section of asphalt material via screed controls.
• Ability to operate or initiative to learn to operate other equipment required on an asphalt crew
• May oil, grease, service and make normal operating adjustments to the equipment
• Ability to operate asphalt paver/screed within designated area with attention to detail and emphasis on craftsmanship
• Ability to guide and direct dump trucks while backing up to machine hopper when operating paver.
• Thorough understanding of all aspects of the paving industry including preparatory work, grades, drainage, paving patterns, aggregate size, job specifications, oil consistencies, compaction and other details related to asphalt paving.
• May perform additional tasks of other positions as needed and instructed by foreman. Qualification/Requirement
• One to two years related asphalt and road construction experience preferred
• Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions including heat, cold, wind, rain, and dusty environments.
• Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
• Be willing to work overtime, nights and/or weekends when necessary.
• Must have strong work ethic
• Ability to work in a team setting and reliable
• Communication skills: Ability to communicate with supervisors, co-workers, contractors and the general public in a courteous, professional manner at all times.
• Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures.
• Must have a valid driver's license Physical Requirements Standing, walking, sitting, kneeling, bending, reaching, climbing over and under equipment.

Ability to work in all weather conditions. Position requires stretching, twisting, and ability to lift approx. 50 lbs. repetitively.
