Asphalt Laborer - Raker/Shoveler

The Asphalt Laborer is responsible for working with hot mix asphalt, which includes, but not limited to, raking and shoveling asphalt material.

Responsibilities:

Ability to work in busy/changing environment on construction sites (close proximity to equipment, pedestrian traffic, adjust to changing job site access Work with various hand tools Operate small engine machines to assist in compaction of asphalt material Maintain consistent quality, texture in handwork. Maintain proper drainage of handwork areas. Assure all joints are properly matched. Cuts, removes and straightedges all butt joints. Maintain cut off saw in safe operating condition. Assure overall job drainage. Assist in handwork, prep work and cleanup as directed by the foreman. Keep compaction personnel informed when handwork areas are ready for compaction. Performs all functions as directed by foreman or lead operator in conjunction with preparation, layout, cleaning, paving, compaction, and finishing operations. Follow all safety rules and regulations Perform other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma Valid Driver's License 2-3 years of asphalt experience, or in a related field Experience in construction is preferred

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ABILITIES

The physical abilities of this position require the employee to be able to frequently sit, stand, climb, low level work, reaching, bending, and trunk movements. Also may require carrying, pushing/pulling, dexterity of hands and fingers, seeing, hearing and talking. Lifting requirements may include up to 50 pounds. Traveling is an essential requirement of this position to ensure implementation of Asphalt Laborer functions. Employee will be required at times to work nights, weekends, over 40-hour work weeks.
