Job Description

Job Overview Join our dynamic road maintenance team as a Road Crew Maintenance worker, where your hands-on skills and enthusiasm will keep our transportation infrastructure safe, smooth, and reliable. In this vital role, you will operate heavy equipment, assist with paving projects, and perform essential maintenance tasks across construction sites. Your proactive approach and attention to detail will directly contribute to the safety and efficiency of our roadways, ensuring communities stay connected and moving forward. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to develop your skills in construction and heavy equipment operation while making a tangible impact on public infrastructure. Duties Operate heavy machinery including dozers, loaders, backhoes, graders, dump trucks, and front loader trucks to perform road construction and maintenance tasks Assist with paving projects by preparing surfaces, laying asphalt, and ensuring quality standards are met Conduct routine inspections of construction sites to identify safety hazards and maintenance needs Locate underground utilities using utility locating equipment to prevent damage during excavation or construction activities Support excavation and grading activities to shape roads, shoulders, and drainage systems Maintain equipment by performing basic troubleshooting, cleaning, fueling, and safety checks Collaborate with team members to execute construction plans efficiently while adhering to safety protocols and project timelines Maintain cemetery plots and prepare them for burials Qualifications Prior experience operating heavy equipment such as dozers, loaders, backhoes, graders, or dump trucks is highly preferred Knowledge of construction site procedures and safety standards is essential Familiarity with utility locating tools and techniques is a plus Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions with physical stamina for demanding tasks Strong attention to detail with a focus on safety and quality workmanship Basic understanding of paving processes and asphalt work is advantageous Valid driver's license; commercial driver's license (CDL) certification is a plus but not required initially Embark on a rewarding career path where your skills in heavy equipment operation and construction support the development of vital infrastructure.
