Asphalt Screed Operator

Control the screed. Set the grade. Deliver a clean, consistent mat. Pavement Maintenance, LLC is seeking a skilled Asphalt Screed Operator to join our paving crew. This is a hands-on field role responsible for controlling the screed and ensuring proper depth, grade, and smoothness of asphalt placement under real jobsite conditions. This position plays a critical role in the overall quality of the finished product. The screed operator sets the standard for the mat, working in sync with the paver operator and crew to maintain consistency, flow, and finish. Key responsibilities include operating and controlling the asphalt screed to achieve proper depth, slope, and smoothness, adjusting screed settings to maintain consistent mat quality, and monitoring material flow throughout the paving process. The operator will work closely with the paver operator, foreman, and crew to ensure production and quality targets are met. The role also includes assisting with setup such as grade control or string lines, identifying and communicating issues in real time, performing daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance, and maintaining clean equipment and work areas. Employees are expected to follow all safety procedures and traffic control requirements at all times. This is a production-driven role requiring precision, strong communication, and the ability to perform in a fast-paced field environment.

Compensation & Benefits:

Hourly pay range of $30 - $38 per hour depending on experience. Overtime opportunities available. Prevailing wage opportunities may apply depending on project. Minimum 2+ years of asphalt screed operation experience on paving crews required. Candidates must have a strong understanding of paving operations, grade control, and the ability to produce a consistent, high-quality mat. Experience working in production-driven environments is required. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, reliable, safety-focused, and able to work effectively as part of a crew. CDL Class A is a plus but not required. Candidates must be able to lift 50+ pounds, stand and walk for extended periods, and work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. Must be able to work overtime, including nights and weekends, depending on project demands.
