Position Overview Carlson Mechanical is seeking an experienced Senior Boiler Mechanic to lead installations, service, and troubleshooting of residential and light commercial boiler and hydronic systems. This role is ideal for a highly skilled technician with strong hydronic heating experience who takes pride in craftsmanship, customer relationships, and mentoring the next generation of mechanics. The successful candidate will possess advanced technical knowledge, strong leadership abilities, willingness to train others and a commitment to delivering outstanding service.
Responsibilities:
Boiler & Mechanical Systems Install, maintain, diagnose, and repair residential and light commercial boiler systems, including gas, oil, propane, electric, hot water, and steam systems. Perform advanced troubleshooting of heating, plumbing, electrical, and control systems. Install and repair plumbing systems and related mechanical equipment. Diagnose and repair pumps, motors, relays, contactors, switches, controls, wiring, breakers, and other electrical components. Analyze and resolve emergency service issues in a timely and professional manner. Leadership & Customer Service Serve as a lead mechanic on projects and service calls. Mentor and train apprentice-level technicians and helpers. Communicate professionally with customers regarding repairs, recommendations, and system operation. Complete accurate service documentation and invoices. Collect payment onsite when required. Operations Order parts and communicate material status and ETAs to office staff. Maintain a clean, organized service vehicle and work area. Attend mandatory Monday morning team meetings. Arrive prepared to begin work at the first job site by 8:00 AM. Participate in an on-call rotation, including occasional weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed. Perform additional duties and assist with special projects as assigned. Safety Maintain a safe work environment and follow all company safety policies and procedures. Participate in required safety training. Follow OSHA regulations and industry best practices. Obtain and utilize Safety Data Sheet (SDS) information when applicable. Participate in training related to confined spaces, lockout/tagout, fall protection, respirator use, hazardous materials, and other required safety programs.
Required Qualifications:
Minimum 10 years of hands-on experience servicing and installing boiler and hydronic heating systems. Current Washington State EL06A Electrical License in good standing. Experience troubleshooting electrical controls and mechanical systems. Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings. Knowledge of applicable plumbing, electrical, boiler, and fire codes. Valid Washington State driver's license with a clean driving record and insurability under company policy. High school diploma or GED, Technical degree preferred, or equivalent experience in steam boilers, electrical, hot water and steam heating systems. Ability to run and understand various types of equipment, including, but not limited to, torches, pipe-threaders, drills, grinders, multi-purpose meters and computers Professionalism, reliability, and top‑notch customer‑service skills. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and lead projects from start to finish.
