Job Title:
Mason Tender Job Description As a Mason Tender, you will play a crucial role in supporting bricklayers, block masons, and stone masons by preparing materials, building scaffolding, mixing mortar, and maintaining an efficient and safe job site. Your contributions are essential for ensuring high-quality workmanship across commercial, residential, and restoration projects. Responsibilities Handle and stage materials by moving and organizing brick, block, stone, sand, cement, and tools to ensure uninterrupted workflow for masons. Mix mortar properly by preparing it to the correct consistency, maintaining fresh batches, and adjusting mixes based on weather conditions. Build and adjust scaffolding safely as work progresses, following OSHA guidelines. Prepare job sites by keeping work areas clean, removing debris, and organizing materials for efficient workflow. Cut brick and block using masonry saws or hand tools, ensuring accuracy and safety. Support masons during installation by assisting with layout lines, spacing, and staging materials in the correct sequence. Maintain tools and equipment by cleaning, setting up, and caring for mixers, saws, wheelbarrows, and hand tools. Follow safety protocols by using PPE, adhering to fall-protection rules, and maintaining safe working conditions. Communicate effectively with the crew to coordinate with masons, laborers, and supervisors, anticipating needs to keep production moving. Essential Skills 2+ years of experience in Mason tending. Physical strength and stamina for lifting and outdoor work. Basic understanding of masonry tools and materials. Strong understanding of mortar mixing, material staging, and scaffold safety. Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team. Additional Skills & Qualifications Prior construction or masonry experience is a plus. Problem-solving skills to adjust to changing site conditions, weather, material shortages, or workflow changes. Time management skills to keep mortar fresh, materials stocked, and scaffolding adjusted. Why Work Here? Work Environment You will be working outdoors in all weather temperatures and elements. The team size will depend on the project, with the current concrete crew consisting of about 5-8 people. Work hours can range from 6:30 am to 5:30 pm, typically Monday through Friday. Safety is a priority, requiring leather boots above the ankle, safety glasses, hard hats, and high-visibility clothing. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Beloit, WI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $41600.00 - $58240.00/yr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
