This role requires a balance of hands-on carpentry expertise and leadership abilities with a focus on remodeling projects, including interior renovations, cabinet installation, trim carpentry, structural framing, and client communication. This ideal candidate is a skilled carpenter who is looking to enhance leadership skills and grow toward a Lead Carpenter role while gaining experience in high-end residential remodeling. This position requires basic and advanced construction knowledge, carpentry skills, leadership ability, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. Carpenter II team members are expected to uphold safety standards, manage materials effectively, and mentor Carpenter I employees. Key Responsibilities Lead, Manage, Accountability (LMA) Set a professional example on the job site by demonstrating punctuality, safety, and adherence to company standards. Manage job site personnel by delegating tasks, ensuring productivity, and maintaining project schedules. Hold team members accountable for quality standards, safety practices, and efficient workflow. Communicate effectively with the Lead Carpenter to address and resolve project challenges that arise. Make the Best Product Perform advanced carpentry tasks, including: Framing, exterior and interior trim, door and window installation, siding installation, cabinet installation, flooring, and more Occasionally assist with minor drywall repairs, painting touch-ups, and tile work Uphold VL Builders' standards of craftsmanship by ensuring all work is completed with attention to detail and quality. Train and mentor Carpenter I employees, helping them develop their skills and grow within the company. Job Site Inventory Control Manage and track materials on project sites, ensuring they are properly stored and accounted for. Submit requests for necessary materials at least one week in advance to maintain workflow. Notify the Lead Carpenter promptly when unexpected material needs arise. Oversee delivery and receipt of materials, checking for accuracy and quality Assist the Lead Carpenter Support the Lead Carpenter in managing subcontractors and coordinating job site workflow. Install and maintain dust, safety, and security protections before starting project work. Perform assigned tasks independently, ensuring quality and efficiency in execution. Maintain job site cleanliness and organization, ensuring a safe and professional environment for clients and team members. Job Site Safety & Client Interaction Adhere to all safety protocols and ensure team compliance with company and OSHA standards. Represent VL Builders professionally by maintaining a positive demeanor with clients and team members. Protect client property from theft, damage, or weather-related loss. Enforce company policies related to safety, language, and behavior on the job site.
Qualifications Education:
High School Diploma or GED Experience:
Minimum of 4 years of experience in residential remodeling or construction with advanced knowledge of carpentry techniques and materials. Proven ability to supervise and mentor entry-level employees effectively.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift more than 50 lbs regularly and sit, kneel, or stand for extended periods.
Skills:
Strong communication and leadership abilities. Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints and project specifications. Detail-oriented with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks efficiently. Commitment to maintaining a safe and productive work environment. Strong willingness to learn and problem-solve.
Tools Required on day one:
35-foot tape measure, screwdrivers, flat bar, utility knife, hammer, tool pouch, speed square, 4' level. Skill saw, drill, impact driver, reciprocating saw.
