  • Carbon Residential | Full-Time | On-Site Carbon Residential is seeking skilled and reliable Carpenters to join our maintenance and renovation team.
This role is central to delivering high-quality interior and exterior work across our residential portfolio — including carpentry, painting, repairs, and unit renovations. The ideal candidates bring hands-on trade experience, strong attention to detail, and a genuine pride in craftsmanship. Whether working independently or as part of a crew, they consistently meet deadlines, maintain safe and organized worksites, and uphold Carbon Residential's standards of quality and professionalism. This role requires regular travel to Birmingham, AL.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Carpentry Perform a wide range of carpentry tasks including repairs, trim work, rough and finish framing, and door and window installation. Install, repair, and refinish cabinetry, shelving, baseboards, crown molding, and other interior millwork. Construct and repair structural elements including walls, partitions, and subflooring as required. Read and follow blueprints, drawings, and work orders to complete assignments accurately and to specification. Select and use appropriate materials, fasteners, and joinery methods to ensure durability and quality of finished work. Repair and replace damaged wooden elements including doors, door frames, window casings, and stair components. Painting & Surface Preparation Perform interior and exterior painting across residential units, common areas, and building exteriors. Prepare surfaces thoroughly prior to painting, including cleaning, sanding, patching, priming, and masking as required. Apply paint, stain, and other finishes using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment to achieve clean, professional results. Match existing finishes and colors accurately when completing touch-ups or partial repaints. Identify and address surface defects prior to finishing, including cracks, holes, and moisture damage. Repairs & Renovation Support Perform drywall repairs including patching, taping, mudding, and finishing to a paint-ready standard. Assist with unit make-ready and renovation work as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor or Construction Manager. Complete work orders and punch-list items accurately and within established timeframes. Support broader renovation and capital improvement projects across the Carbon Residential portfolio as needed. Identify and report additional repair needs, safety concerns, or supply requirements to the appropriate team member. Tools, Equipment & Worksite Standards Operate, maintain, and safely store hand tools, power tools, brushes, rollers, sanders, and related equipment. Ensure all worksites are kept clean, organized, and safe throughout the duration of each project. Follow all OSHA safety guidelines and Carbon Residential safety standards at all times, including proper use of PPE. Maintain an accurate inventory of assigned tools and supplies and report shortages or equipment issues promptly. Work independently or collaboratively as part of a team to meet project timelines and quality expectations.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or equivalent required. Minimum 2 years of proven, hands-on experience as a carpenter, painter, or combined trade role — residential renovation experience strongly preferred. Strong working knowledge of carpentry materials, tools, joinery methods, and construction techniques. Demonstrated ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and written work orders. Detail-oriented with a consistent commitment to quality workmanship and safety compliance. Reliable, punctual, and able to work effectively with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment. Valid driver's license preferred; reliable transportation required. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and work safely on ladders and scaffolding at varying heights. Ability to perform all duties in a safe manner at all times and adhere to OSHA regulations.
PREFERRED SKILLS
Drywall repair and finishing experience — patching, taping, mudding, and skim coating. Basic electrical or plumbing knowledge applicable to residential renovation and repair work. Experience with multifamily residential renovation, unit make-readies, or value-add construction projects. Familiarity with paint sprayer equipment and commercial-grade painting techniques. OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification is a plus.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Unassisted lifting and carrying of up to 50 pounds on a regular basis. Prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, and reaching throughout the workday. Comfortable working on ladders, scaffolding, and elevated work platforms at varying heights. Able to work in confined spaces and in varying indoor and outdoor conditions, including heat, cold, dust, and fumes. Able to perform all duties in a safe manner at all times while adhering to Carbon Residential safety requirements.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This is a full-time, on-site position. Regular travel to Birmingham, AL is required for this role. Work schedules may include early starts or extended hours depending on project timelines and business needs. Responsibilities may evolve over time; additional tasks may be assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor or Construction Manager as needed.
