Overhire Theatrical Carpenter Description:
The Huntington is seeking overhire theatrical carpenters. The overhire theatrical carpenter assists and supports the scenery team to create high quality scenery in a positive and supportive environment. Overhire theatrical carpenters assist with constructing, installing, and striking scenery, as well as performing scenery notes throughout technical rehearsal and performance periods.
JOB DESCRIPTION/DUTIES
All duties performed while under the supervision of full-time scenery staff members. Install & strike scenery Construct scenery to specification in a safe and efficient manner Complete notes, repairs, and maintenance on scenery during rehearsal and performance periods Load & unload trucks for transporting scenery as part of installation and strike Assist in rigging and automation installation, maintenance, and strike Ad to and promote safe working practices Maintain a safe, clean, and efficient workspace Other duties, as assigned
Qualifications:
REQUIRED SKILLS
Ability to follow directions, ask questions, and work collaboratively with a diverse team Knowledge of theater production process and terminology Physical stamina, ability to lift 50-100 lbs., and perform physically demanding tasks Ability to work in various conditions, including at heights, loading & unloading trucks at street level, and in dark or confined spaces Ability to climb ladders and use MEWPs upon receiving training Experience with proper use of basic hand and power toolsmonly found in wood and metal working Experience in carpentry, woodworking, metalworking, or related fields Possess a keen awareness of surroundings
PREFFERED SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings Comfortable working at heights of 60+ ft Experience with theatrical rigging equipment & techniques; including single purchase line set system Experience in welding light gauge steel Ability to drive a 26' box truck Experience with theatrical automation and automated rigging
