SPRINGFIELD
Carpenter Facilities Staff are responsible for the safe, professional, reliable, efficient, environmentally-sound, and cost-effective maintenance of the facilities on the Springfield College campus. The Carpenter is responsible for the general maintenance and repair of all buildings and properties. Qualifications High School diploma or GED required with 7+ years of experience in building maintenance or construction operation in multi-trades (plaster, taping and sheetrock, multi-surface preparation, framing, and other building interior/exterior finishing, etc.). Associate\'s, vocational or technical training preferred. Valid driver\'s license. A full motor vehicle/driving history report will be required as a part of the background check process. Candidate\'s driver history must be approved by the college\'s vehicle insurance carrier for operation of all police or college vehicles. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of carpentry and construction related skilled trades including but not limited to: carpentry, roofing, flooring, masonry, doors, cabinetry, and windows & hardware. Service oriented background with commercial and residential experience. Knowledge of specifications and reading blueprints. Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision, have initiative, be a self-starter, and strong attention to detail. Demonstrate proper judgment in behavior, speech, and dress in a neat, clean, and appropriate professional manner for the assignment and work setting. Ability to analyze situations and information, consider the risks and implications and implement a plan of action. Ability to work as a team member & effectively with other personnel including faculty, contractors, students. Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job including but not limited to walking around campus, climbing stairs, ladders, scaffolds or platforms, lifting/carrying heavy objects and working in confined spaces. Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job including but not limited to walking around campus, climbing stairs, ladders, scaffolds or platforms, lifting/carrying heavy objects and working in confined spaces. Willingness to perform other work as required by the department and Facilities Maintenance. Must have a satisfactory work record including good attendance. Ability to change work schedule as required by the workload, operational requirements and respond on an as needed basis. This may require additional hours on short notice (hours including evening, nights, weekends and holidays) in field settings through normal and severe weather conditions. Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to twenty (20) pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds, and occasionally lift over fifty (50+) pounds. Ability to work off a lift, scaffolding, and/or ladder (over 30ft above the floor in some cases). Ability to consistently stand/walk for up to 8hrs per day, frequent & repeated bending, twisting, reaching, kneeling. This position requires occasional evening, holiday, or weekend work to support College events, respond to weather incidents (e.g. snow), as assigned to support Facility\'s needs.
