POSITION DESCRIPTION
CarpenterPOSITION SUMMARY
The Wyatt Detention Facility is seeking a candidate to repair, erect, and alter wooden structures, cabinets, furniture, doors, windows, floors used on Wyatt property; repairs roofs having asphalt based coverings, installs and repairs door and window hardware; installs floor coverings; erects scaffolding, concrete forms; ceiling systems, and wall stud systems.Please Note:
This position is 40 hours per week. The selected candidates will work on the day shift 8:00 am•4:00 pm.EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Although it is not possible to provide an exhaustive list of all types of duties, responsibilities, and performance standards, the following are the essential job functions: Inspects buildings needing carpentry repair or alterations, estimates job duration and the cost and/or quantities of labor and materials required to complete the job, and reports results of the inspection to those who have complained of unsafe conditions or who have requested alteration work. Interprets and/or draws up sketches, patterns, blueprints, instructions and/or layouts of work to be done. Performs structural repair, alteration, or improvement work such as lowering ceilings and paneling rooms; preparing surfaces for plaster or cement work; studding, wiring, and plastering walls and cracks in floors or around windows; taping joints on sheetrock; and pre-cementing and/or replacing Formica tops. Confers with the unit control section, various department heads, or supervisors regarding handling emergencies, the feasibility of performing repairs or alterations, and the work schedule. Frames pictures; makes window and door screens; drills holes in signs; orders materials and supplies; and cleans, sharpens, and tempers various tools and equipment. Must open and close work orders in a work order system as assigned. Repair buildings with appropriate construction materials and tools to maintain buildings and provide a safer environment for detainees and staff. Installs, replaces, repairs, and makes adjustments to all types of building hardware in a workman like manner so as to maintain this hardware and provide a safe and secure environment for detainees and staff. Erects staging, ladders, and scaffolding in such a manner as to provide a safe working platform for workmen to stand on. Operates vehicles safely to provide transportation for personnel, equipment, and materials. Repairs sheet goods, floor coverings and installs floor tiles according to established practice to provide a safe and esthetically appealing environment. Makes, fastens, and installs frames for wall hangings, bulletin boards, and pictures, according to established practice, to provide space for notices and environmental decoration. General maintenance and upkeep of facility and grounds, including snow removal. Performs other duties assigned. Provide technical assistance to other employees. Operate rigging equipment for carpentry duties and safety. Perform related duties such as cutting, drilling, and wrapping metalsFACTOR 1

QUALIFICATIONS
Working skills in: § Knowledge of tools, materials, methods, and standard practices used in the carpentry trade. § Ability to read and interpret blueprints and sketches, and be able to work from oral and/or written instructions. § Climb and work from ladders and scaffolding at some distance above the ground. § Skilled in the use of tools used in the trade such as hand tools and electric power tools, both portable and stationary.C:

Possession of an appropriate category of driver's license is preferred at the time of appointment. D•:Pre-Hire Process:
• A criminal background check will be completed on the recommended candidate prior to the candidate being hired. Education, licensure, and certifications will be verified in accordance with the Human Resources Department's Hiring Guidelines.E:
Minimum Entrance Requirements:
Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in carpentry, woodworking or cabinetmaking work, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.Substitutions:
A diploma or certificate from a recognized trade, technical or vocational school, at high school level or higher, with a major in carpentry, woodworking, or cabinetmaking may be substituted for the required experience.FACTOR 2
