Job Summary:
The Commercial Carpenter is responsible for performing all phases of carpentry work on construction projects, including framing walls, installing doors, hardware, and many other tasks. Working from blueprints, drawings, and specifications, the Commercial Carpenter builds the essential frameworks that support the rest of the construction process. This role involves the use of hand and power tools, measuring instruments, and construction materials to complete tasks safely, efficiently, and to specification.
Hours:
A typical workday is Monday through Friday from 7:00AM to 3:30PM, actual working hours and days may vary due to project deadlines - overtime may be required as needed.

Key Responsibilities:
Interpret Construction Documents and Specifications Understand and apply construction drawings and project requirements to daily tasks. Read blueprints, drawings, and scope sheets. Clarify design intent with foreman or superintendent when needed. Adjust work to meet evolving site conditions or change orders. Operate Tools and Equipment Safely and Effectively Use the correct tools and equipment to complete tasks efficiently and safely. Operate saws, nail guns, drills, levels, and other carpentry tools. Follow tool maintenance procedures and safety protocols. Use lifts, ladders, and temporary access equipment per training. Maintain Safety and Clean Work Practices Uphold all safety standards and contribute to a clean, hazard-free jobsite. Wear required PPE and follow site-specific safety rules. Participate in daily safety talks and report hazards or incidents. Keep work areas free of debris and store materials properly. Collaborate with Crew and Support Workflow Work effectively with team members to support project progress and crew productivity. Take direction from the lead carpenter or foreman. Help move materials, stage work areas, and support other trades if needed. Communicate clearly with teammates and flag problems early.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required; completion of a carpentry apprenticeship or technical training is preferred. 2-5 years of experience in carpentry or framing work in the construction industry. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and building plans accurately. Proficient in the use of carpentry tools, including saws, hammers, drills, nail guns, levels, and measuring tapes. Strong understanding of structural framing methods, building codes, and construction site practices. Physical stamina and strength, with the ability to lift heavy materials and work in various environmental conditions. Strong attention to detail and ability to work with precision to ensure structures are level and secure. Basic math skills for measuring, cutting, and calculating materials. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently. Must be willing to do inside and outside work. Willing to work in all weather conditions. Ability to work well in a team environment. Must be available for some travel outside of Sioux Falls (about 20%). Physical endurance to complete the necessary tasks. Ability to pass all pre-employment screenings. Commitment to safety protocols and adherence to OSHA and company safety standards. Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license, with the ability to travel to job sites as required.
