About the Role As a Carpenter, you will be responsible for building custom crates and shop pallets used to ship our heavy industrial equipment. This role requires someone who can read pick lists, measure accurately, and construct durable crates using plywood and dimensional lumber. You'll also help protect parts during shipment by blocking, bracing, and applying moisture protection. Forklift operation and the ability to work safely around large parts are essential. This is a hands-on, active role in a fast-paced environment where attention to detail directly impacts product quality and customer satisfaction. What You'll Do Review the pick list and audit parts for order accuracy Measure large equipment and calculate crate dimensions Select and cut plywood and lumber based on crate requirements Build crates and shop pallets using jigs, power tools, and hand tools Photograph parts and crate layers for documentation Block and brace parts within the crate to prevent damage in transit Apply rust inhibitor or protective coverings when needed Operate forklifts to move crates, pallets, and materials Maintain a clean and organized work area Assist the shipping team with packing or skidding during downtime Follow all company safety procedures and work instructions What You Bring High school diploma or GED One to three years of carpentry, crating, or warehouse experience preferred Ability to read a tape measure to 1/16 of an inch Skilled with power tools such as saws, drills, and nail guns Forklift experience, including safe operation and basic maintenance Ability to calculate crate dimensions based on part size and weight Familiarity with basic print reading Attention to detail when matching part numbers and quantities Willingness to cross-train and assist in other departments as needed Team-oriented mindset and ability to follow verbal and written instructions Commitment to safety and continuous improvement initiatives What You Get Full-time, stable work schedule Medical, dental, and vision insurance 401(k) with company match Paid holidays and paid time off Supportive team environment with opportunities to grow Columbia Machine offers a full benefits package including medical, dental, vision, prescription drug, life insurance, flexible spending accounts, short and long term disability, 401(k), incentive compensation, paid holidays, paid time off, and tuition reimbursement.
