This role is primarily hands-on. You'll be in the field executing carpentry work with your team, setting the standard through your own craftsmanship, and actively developing the skills of the people working next to you. The right person is an experienced carpenter who takes pride in teaching others, holds a high bar for quality, and understands that a great crew is built one conversation and one job at a time. You don't just assign work you show people how it's done, explain why it matters, and help them get better every day. Work Alongside the Crew Show up to the job site ready to work, this is a hands-on role, not a desk job Execute high level restoration carpentry work and set the pace for the crew around you Step in where needed whether that's framing, finish work, restoration, or fabrication Demonstrate the right way to approach a task before handing it off to a crew member Develop & Train Your Team Actively teach carpentry skills on the job: explain techniques, correct mistakes in the moment, and build crew confidence over time Identify each crew member's strengths and gaps Create a job site environment where asking questions and learning is encouraged Help newer crew members grow into skilled, independent carpenters Hold crew members accountable to quality standards in a way that builds them up, not tears them down Lead the Job Site Set clear daily expectations for the crew, who's doing what, how, and why Maintain a job site culture built on safety, professionalism, and respect Communicate consistently with crew members and clients Ensure work reflects Thoughtful Craftsmen's standards from start to finish Lead final walkthroughs and take ownership of the quality of the finished product Stay Organized & On Track Plan ahead for materials, tools, and crew assignments Track progress against scope and flag issues early Take ownership of documentation and follow-through on job site details You have deep, well-rounded experience across:
Restoration & Repair :
epoxy work, wood restoration, porch restoration
Framing & Structure :
layout, framing, sheathing, flashing
Finish Carpentry :
doors, trim, stairs, railings, porch flooring
Custom Fabrication :
milling and reproducing detailed architectural elements (We don't expect perfection across every category, but we do expect a deep commitment to the craft and a genuine desire to pass that knowledge on to others.) You're someone who: Has strong, hands-on carpentry and restoration experience Genuinely enjoys teaching and watching others grow Leads by example your work ethic and craftsmanship speak for themselves Communicates clearly and directly with crew members and leadership Takes ownership and follows through without being asked twice Holds a high standard without cutting corners Stays curious - always learning, improving, and asking why Does the right thing, even when no one is watching Who Thrives Here People who love the craft.
