This is a high-visibility opportunity to showcase your expertise in front of D.C. residents, government officials, and visitors alike. We're building the future of the District's roadways, and we need powerhouse professionals who take pride in elite craftsmanship and "Zero-Defect" results. Position Summary The Concrete Finisher is responsible for the placement, finishing, and curing of all concrete roadway assets, including curbs, gutters, sidewalks, and ADA-compliant ramps. This role requires an expert understanding of concrete slump, weather-related set times, and DDOT's specific finishing standards (e.g., broom finish vs. trowel finish). Key Responsibilities Perform a preinspection by verifying formwork alignment and subgrade compaction with the Form Carpenter before the mix arrives. Direct the chute and manage the vibration of the pour to eliminate honeycombing and air pockets. Precisionshaping of truncated domes and ADA ramps to ensure 100% compliance with District accessibility codes. Apply curing compounds and physical barriers to protect the concrete from traffic, weather, or vandalism. Critical Success Factors Verify the mix time with the Field Supervisor before signaling the truck to discharge to guarantee a successful pour meaning weather conditions are accounted for and proper manpower is present. Ensure texture consistency to a broom finish across all sections to meet DDOT friction and aesthetic standards. Expertly place expansion and control joints to prevent cracking in the concrete slab for joint precision.
