Job Description

Entry-level position to train employees in concrete construction and maintenance of City's stormwater system. Work is performed with close guidance and provides structured training to prepare the employee for progression to a Construction Specialist I.
Perform basic concrete type work:
mixing, simple forming, sidewalk replacement. Perform basic block and brick laying and carpentry work. Maintenance of City retention ponds, including but not limited to mowing and weed eating. Drive light duty truck and operate light/medium equipment including but not limited to: concrete mixer, concrete saws, compressors, generators, pumps, mowers; and able to use small hand tools and concrete finishing tools. Assist Streets and Sanitation in spring clean-up and roadway repairs. Must be available for emergency callouts and on call duty. Respond to emergency response during hurricanes, inclement weather or other emergency situations. Perform additional duties, as assigned. Able to work from a boat and assist in the operation and maintenance of stormwater pumps and aquatic weed control. To communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, and follow oral & written instructions. In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential and may be required to perform duties outside of their normal job description. Complete required trainings as specified within the City Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Valid Driver License. Must obtain Florida driver license within thirty (30) days of employment.
PREFERABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Willingness to adopt AI and emerging technologies.
Career Development:
After 6 months of employment and being in good standing, and upon obtaining FDOT Intermediate MOT/TTC Certification, employee will receive a 5% pay increase, and be promoted to a Construction Specialist I. Applicants will be required to complete a Disclosure & Authorization Regarding Background Investigation, a Confidentiality Agreement and a criminal background screening. Driving history for the past three (3) years must reflect no violations of a driving related felony offense, or driving under the influence (DUI) which includes both drugs and alcohol, reckless driving, or hit and run involving an occupied vehicle or attended property, or an accumulation of traffic violations, plus three (3) points for each attendance at driving school (regardless of whether points were assessed against the license) where the penalty points do not exceed twelve (12). Position is considered at-risk for exposure to Hepatitis B during performance of regular duties. An acceptance/declination of vaccination form is required. If selected, post-offer essential functions assessment is required to evaluate the ability to safely meet the physical demands of the job. Your Service Earns Our Support .
