Job Description

at Department of Transportation in Dixon, Illinois, United States Job Description Essential Functions Performs the required sampling and testing procedures for Portland Cement Concrete ( PCC ) mixture produced in the district and verify that all mixtures comply with contract requirements. Ensures that all ingredients used in PCC mixtures are from a properly inspected source and comply with pertinent specifications. Assists and calibrates PCC plants, mobile mix trucks and laboratory inspections assigned. Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conductive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering or a job related technical/science curriculum PLUS thirty months of engineering experience; OR six years of engineering experience Preferred Qualifications Working knowledge of materials testing and laboratory testing equipment. Strong oral and written communication skills. Conditions of Employment Valid driver’s license. Extensive travel within the district and occasional statewide travel. Outdoor work in a variety of conditions including, but not limited to, production facilities, active construction sites and roads open to traffic. Certification in Aggregate Technician (3 day), PCC Level I and PCC Level II with IDOT Quality Management Training Program OR obtaining those certifications within the first 18 months of hire. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Ability to work overtime. Successful completion of a pre-employment physical, and drug and alcohol screening. Successful completion of a background screening. Certain provisions of the revolving door restrictions contained in 5 ILCS 430/5-45 apply to this position. As a result, the employee should be aware that if offered non-State employment during state employment or within one year immediately after ending State employment, the employee shall, prior to accepting any such non- State employment offer, notify the Office of the Executive Inspector General for the Agencies of the Illinois Governor ( OEIG ) or may be subject to a fine. This position has been found to meet the requirements in section 4A-101 of the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act requiring the occupant/employee to file a Statement of Economic Interest. The Illinois Governmental Ethics Act (5 ILCS 420/4A et seq.) requires certain state officials and employees to file annual Statements of Economic Interest with the Office of the Secretary of State that will be made available for examination and copying by the public. All employees required to file a Statement of Economic Interest are also required to file the Supplemental Statement of Economic Interest with the Executive Ethics Commission. (See Executive Order 15-09) Fines and penalties apply to untimely filings.
