August 3 2026 Position Overview North Harrison High School is seeking a dedicated and skilled Construction Trades Teacher to lead our high school Carpentry program. This position focuses on delivering hands-on instruction in General Carpentry, Framing, and Finishing, preparing students for careers and postsecondary opportunities in the construction industry. The ideal candidate will bring real-world construction experience, a commitment to student success, and a passion for workforce development.

Key Responsibilities:

Deliver engaging, hands-on instruction in: General Carpentry Residential/Light Commercial Framing Interior & Exterior Finishing Techniques Develop and implement curriculum aligned with Indiana CTE standards and industry expectations Provide a safe, structured, and professional lab/shop environment Teach proper use of tools, equipment, and construction safety practices (OSHA-aligned) Assess student progress and provide meaningful feedback Support students in earning industry-recognized credentials (e.g., NCCER) Build partnerships with local contractors, unions, and workforce organizations Coordinate work-based learning opportunities such as job shadowing, internships, or apprenticeships Maintain inventory, equipment, and instructional materials

Preferred Qualifications:

NCCER Certification (or willingness to obtain) Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in carpentry or construction trades Experience in residential and/or commercial construction Strong knowledge of framing, blueprint reading, and finishing techniques Ability to work effectively with high school students and diverse learners

Licensure Requirements:

Must hold or be eligible for an Indiana teaching license OR Willingness to obtain licensure through one of the following pathways: Career Specialist Permit (Bachelor's Degree, Work Experience & Additional Training) Workplace Specialist Permit (Work Experience & Additional Training) (The district will support qualified candidates in navigating the licensure process.)
