Employment Status:
Full-Time The RMC Quality Control Supervisor is responsible for supervising Ready Mix Concrete Quality Control Technicians and supporting ready-mix operations within the assigned market area. This position partners closely with Production Managers, Batch Panel Operators, Dispatch, Sales, and Aggregates Quality personnel to proactively address quality issues, improve product consistency, maintain specification compliance, and support operational efficiency.Essential Functions:
Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of RMC Quality Control Technicians across multiple ready-mix plants within the assigned market area. Directly supervise approximately five (5) Quality Control Technicians across the assigned market area. Ensure compliance with NESL policies, safety procedures, quality standards, and applicable testing specifications. Assist with workforce scheduling, vacation coordination, payroll approval, and technician coverage to support operational needs. Develop, maintain, and optimize concrete mix designs to achieve specification compliance, durability, workability, production efficiency, and cost objectives. Provide batching support, troubleshooting assistance, and operational quality support during day and night shift operations. Support customer quality concerns, field troubleshooting, and project-related quality communications. Prepare concrete submittals and supporting documentation for commercial, PennDOT, and Pennsylvania Turnpike projects in accordance with ASTM and project specification requirements. Coordinate mix approvals and quality communications with DOT/PTC representatives, operations, sales, customers, and consulting engineers. Oversee and audit concrete sampling and testing activities at plants and job sites in accordance with ASTM, AASHTO, ACI, PennDOT, and project requirements. Support and audit QC laboratory operations, including testing procedures, documentation practices, equipment calibration, accreditation requirements, and aggregate certification requirements. Investigate quality concerns including test failures, rejected loads, customer complaints, and field performance issues; assist with root cause analysis and corrective action implementation. Analyze strength data, variability trends, and quality performance metrics to improve consistency and operational performance. Support plant operations with aggregate moisture management, admixture usage, batching controls, and production troubleshooting. Train and mentor QC technicians, batch personnel, and operational coworkers on testing procedures, specifications, and quality best practices. Promote a strong safety and quality culture throughout ready-mix operations. Maintain professional working relationships with customers, inspectors, operations personnel, and regulatory agencies. Support continuous improvement initiatives across Ready Mix operations. Other duties as assignedQualifications:
Associate degree in Construction Technology or related field preferred; equivalent work-related experience considered. Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience required with seven (7) or more years of relevant experience preferred in ready-mix concrete quality control, testing, mix design, inspection, or related concrete operations. Demonstrated knowledge of concrete mix design, production processes, testing procedures, and specification compliance. Experience with PennDOT and Pennsylvania Turnpike concrete specifications and submittal requirements preferred. Working knowledge of ASTM, AASHTO, ACI, and DOT testing standards. ACI Field Grade I Certification required. PennDOT Plant Certification required. Aggregate certification preferred. Knowledge and experience with Command Alkon and JD Edwards systems preferred. Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and documentation accuracy. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced operational environment. Ability to work collaboratively with operations, sales, dispatch, quality, and external customers. Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems in a practical and timely manner. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends as operationally required. Valid driver's license and compliance with NESL driving standards. This position is intended to be a market-area-based operational quality leadership role supporting both field and administrative quality functions. Current role weighting is primarily administrative in nature, with future-state expectations targeted toward approximately 50% technical support, 30% operational/field support, and 20% supervisory and administrative responsibilities. The position supports day shift and night shift operations as required to meet customer and operational demands. This role directly supervises Quality Control Technicians within the assigned market area.
