Job Description

Supervises subordinates for the purpose of providing specialized or advanced maintenance, repair, diagnosis or troubleshooting, construction, fabrication, and preventive maintenance to homeowner applicants. Organizes and supervises the emergency repair operations for the Housing Department's homes, rental units, and office buildings; and responsible for procurement, storage, and handling of materials and tools. Ensures established procedures are maintained and provides progress reports to Housing Management. Supervise and participate in the inspection, service, and maintenance of tools, equipment, and vehicles; Assist in the preparation and implementation of policies and procedures; Prepare oral and written activity reports as requested; Prepare estimates from rough sketches, engineering plans, or drawings, and document expenditure of materials, supplies, equipment, and labor hours; Inspect, approve, and (if certified or authorized) certify the work of others; Coordinate activities with agencies, contractors, and representatives of the Tribe to ensure optimal use of available resources and to minimize disruptions of service or support; Direct proper storage, handling, and disposal of hazardous materials required or encountered in renovation work; Ensure staff maintains security and accountability for all tools, equipment and materials; Supervises assigned staff, including but not limited to training, conducting employee performance evaluations and disciplinary actions; Direct implementation of work-site traffic control procedures to ensure safety; Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge of:
Operation and maintenance of tools, equipment, and materials encountered in the area of assignment Operation and maintenance of testing and monitoring equipment common to skill, trade, or area of specialization Leading, training, supervising, and evaluating the work of others Hazards, safety procedures, or equipment required in the area of specialization or assigned work area Codes and standards applicable to the craft trade specialty or area of work assignment; OSHA policies and procedures All aspects of building maintenance trade Applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations; Yaqui culture, customs, resources, traditions, and/or a willingness to learn.
Skills to/in:
Interpreting and applying required codes or standards to work situations; Maintaining written documentation of activities; General mathematical concepts; Report preparation techniques; Conducting and coordinating specialized and on-the-job training in the skill, craft, trade, or area of specialization.
Ability to:
Perform phases of building maintenance including but not limited to: electrical fixtures, mechanical, plumbing, carpentry and electrical repairs; Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, other agencies and the general public; Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; Work outside in varying weather conditions.
High School Diploma or GED :
plus four (4) years in construction contracting or building maintenance, including two (2) years of supervisory experience or any combination of academic education, professional training, or work experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this position listed above. AND Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver's License. Must possess a current Level 1 Arizona Clearance Card or be able to obtain the Level 1 Arizona Clearance Card within ninety (90) days of hire. Failure to maintain a current Level 1 Clearance Card will result in termination from this position.
Special Requirements:
This position will require the incumbent to work non-traditional hours, nights, and weekends. Housing work hours are between 8am to 7pm, Monday thru Thursday and 8am to 5pm on Friday.
Preferred:
OSHA30 Vocational or technical training in electrical, HVAC, and plumbing
