JOB SUMMARY
This is a responsible lead person position in the Public Works Department. This position performs a variety of related skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and operation of buildings, parks, and related activities, maintenance and repair of mechanical and electrical equipment and various other maintenance and mechanical systems. Works under and reports directly to the Public Works Director.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
The following list of essential job functions is not exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. Perform mechanical and electrical skilled, semi-skilled, and manual labor tasks. Creates a schedule of periodic inspections and issues instructions and assignments. Assist in the preparation of specifications and standard operating procedures (SOP's) for facility maintenance, mechanical, and electrical maintenance projects. Assist in the preparation of bid specifications for equipment repair or replacement and materials and supplies. Receives and resolves complaints concerning services and initiates corrective action. Maintains vehicle and equipment maintenance records. Oversee the spraying of herbicide, insecticide, and other chemicals for control of insects and weeds. Operates tractors, mowers, trucks, and other heavy equipment as needed. Performs routine maintenance on lawn and other power equipment. Maintains all functions to irrigation systems and related equipment. Recommends site location, selection, and procurement of all public trees. Performs routine maintenance, such as pruning, fertilization, and diagnosis of problems to ensure tree health and longevity. Carries out seeding, fertilizing, top soiling, watering, and pest control. Performs other assignments as needed, required, and instructed.
KNOWLEDGE. SKILLS. AND ABILITIES
Considerable knowledge of methods, materials, equipment, and techniques used in constructing, maintaining, and repairing streets, park facilities, landscape management, grounds, and building. General working knowledge of water, sewer and stormwater operations, appurtenances, and Federal and State compliance programs. General working knowledge of automotive vehicle servicing and maintenance requirements. Working knowledge of first aid, personal protective equipment, and applicable safety precautions. Skill in operation of power and hand tools and heavy construction equipment. Knowledge of purchasing policies and procedures; ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing. Ability to operate personal computer. Ability to work independently. Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instruction. Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public.
QUALIFICATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certification and five years' experience in repair and maintenance or related work. Experience in street, building maintenance, and construction activities, or any combination of experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities. Working experience with computerized irrigation systems. Valid State of Florida Driver's License or ability to obtain one. Arborist certification, insecticide and herbicide applicators license, and stormwater and certified erosion control inspector desired.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. The employee may work in high, precarious places and is often exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment may be loud.
