About Us Imperial Recycling Located in Chicago, Imperial Recycling specializes in processing a wide range of recyclable materials, including aluminum, copper, brass, steel, zinc, plastic, paper, and insulated wire through advanced chopping line operations. We proudly support industries such as manufacturing, electrical utilities, metal fabrication, and many others.

We are currently seeking an experienced Industrial Electrician - PLC Troubleshooting to support our fast-paced industrial operation by maintaining, diagnosing, and troubleshooting electrical and automated equipment to keep production running safely and efficiently. Position Overview The Industrial Electrician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical systems and automated equipment in a high-volume recycling/industrial environment. This role requires strong hands-on experience with PLC systems, the ability to diagnose complex electrical issues, and the judgment to act quickly to minimize downtime. This is not an entry-level position — the ideal candidate can work independently, troubleshoot under pressure, and support continuous plant operations. Key Responsibilities Electrical Maintenance & Troubleshooting Diagnose and repair electrical issues in production and processing equipment Troubleshoot motors, drives, panels, sensors, and electrical control systems Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals Lock out Tag Out experience PLC & Automation Troubleshoot PLC systems (Allen-Bradley, Siemens or similar) Identify faults in control logic, inputs/outputs, and communication systems Support basic PLC modifications and work with engineering when needed Equipment Reliability & Downtime Reduction Respond quickly to breakdowns and restore equipment safely and efficiently Identify root causes of failures and implement corrective actions Support preventive and predictive maintenance programs Safety & Compliance Follow all safety procedures. Ensure all electrical work complies with codes and plant standards Maintain clean and organized work areas Collaboration Work closely with operations and maintenance teams to prioritize repairs Communicate clearly on issues, timelines, and risks Support training of operators on basic equipment awareness when needed What Defines Success in this Role Quickly diagnoses and resolves electrical/PLC issues with minimal supervision Keeps equipment running safely and reliably Reduces downtime through strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis Acts with urgency without compromising safety Qualifications Required Experience 5+ years of industrial electrical experience (manufacturing, recycling, heavy industry) Proven hands-on experience troubleshooting PLC systems Strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems (480V, motors, drives, control panels) Experience working in fast-paced, high-volume environments Technical Skills Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics Experience with VFDs, relays, sensors, and automation systems Familiarity with Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar PLC platforms Conduit bending skills Nice to Have but not required Electrical certification or license Experience in recycling or metal processing environments Physical Requirements & Work Conditions Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the plant for extended periods Ability to lift up to 50 lbs Comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, and around heavy machinery Ability to work in hot, cold, dusty, and noisy industrial environments Must be able to respond to emergency breakdowns, including overtime or weekends as needed Benefits Competitive salary + annual performance reviews Health / dental / vision coverage Life & Ancillary coverage Paid time off & holidays Retirement savings plan
