surveying Construction team management Blueprint reading Underground utilities installation Delegation Full Job Description Role Overview We are seeking a reliable and experienced Utility Foreman to lead our field operations. You will supervise a team of operators and laborers, ensuring that all utility construction, pipe laying, and excavation work is completed efficiently, profitably, and to the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities Crew Leadership:
Direct and mentor daily activities of a 3-7 person field crew. Assign tasks, monitor productivity, and provide on-the-job training.
Project Execution:
Read and interpret project blueprints, schematics, and engineering drawings. Ensure accurate trenching, shoring, and pipe installation according to local codes.
Safety Compliance:
Champion a safety-first culture. Enforce OSHA regulations, conduct daily pre-job safety briefings, and ensure the safe operation of all heavy machinery.
Resource Management:
Coordinate with project managers to ensure materials, equipment, and tools are available to prevent delays. Track labor, equipment, and material quantities for daily production reports.
Quality Control & Reporting:
Inspect daily completed work to verify alignment with specifications. Maintain accurate logs regarding job progress, site conditions, and time tracking.
Stakeholder Communication:
Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor when interacting with site owners, general contractors, inspectors, and the local public.
Qualifications & Requirements Experience:
Minimum of 3-5 years of field experience in heavy civil or underground utility construction, including at least 1-2 years in a lead or supervisory role.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in reading utility plans, grade checking, and operating surveying equipment (levels, lasers, GPS). Capability to operate heavy machinery (e.g., excavators) is highly desired.
Certifications:
OSHA 10-Hour or 30-Hour certification is preferred. Operator Qualifications (OQs) are a plus.
Physical & Environmental Conditions:
Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, lift/carry up to 50 pounds, and perform physical tasks requiring bending, stooping, and standing for extended periods.
Licensing:
Must possess a valid Driver's License. (Commercial Driver's License - CDL is a plus). Physical Demands & Working Environment Regular field/construction site environment with exposure to noise, dust, and heavy equipment. Standard Monday through Friday schedule, though occasional extended hours, nights, or weekends may be required to meet project deadlines or respond to utility emergencies.
