Full Job Description Position Purpose:
The Substation Foreman oversees and coordinates all on-site activities related to the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical substations. This role ensures that work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with design specifications, company standards, and industry regulations. The foreman supervises crews, manages materials and equipment, and ensures that project milestones and quality objectives are met.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervise and coordinate daily activities of substation construction and maintenance crews. Interpret blueprints, one-line diagrams, and project specifications to ensure accurate installation and wiring. Oversee installation of transformers, circuit breakers, buses, control panels, grounding systems, and associated equipment. Ensure all work adheres to applicable safety regulations (OSHA, NESC, company standards). Conduct job site safety meetings and enforce safety compliance at all times. Monitor project timelines, report progress, and identify potential delays or resource needs. Coordinate with engineers, inspectors, and project management to ensure design compliance. Manage inventory, tools, equipment, and materials for job sites. Train and mentor crew members, promoting skill development and safe work practices. Troubleshoot and resolve field issues related to electrical and mechanical components. Maintain detailed records of work performed, materials used, and project progress.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle and feel; and reach with hands and arms.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. This position is performed in outside weather conditions and around high-voltage electrical equipment. May require overtime, weekends, and travel depending on project demands as well as storm work. Must comply with all safety policies and use required protective equipment.

Required Qualifications:
Minimum 5 or more years of recent field experience Valid Class A Commercial Driver License and Acceptable driving record Ability to operate equipment Able to read and communicate effectively in English Able to travel long distances at short notice, when required Able to work for extended periods in various locations, when required Able to lift more than 50 lbs. Able to properly inspect rubber goods and PPE Willing to work overtime when requested Willingness to glove/work live high voltage distribution power lines Experience with utility-scale transmission or distribution projects.
