Job Description
North Central Service, Inc. is hiring a foreman for underground utility projects throughout the Midwest. North Central Service is a leading provider in bringing fiber optic cable into communities. Position Summary The Foreman is responsible for leading field crews to complete underground utility and/or telecom construction projects in a safe, efficient, timely, and cost-effective manner. This role supervises daily job-site activities, operates equipment when needed, ensures compliance with safety and quality standards, and communicates progress with supervisors or project managers. Core Responsibilities Lead and supervise field crews to meet production goals, schedules, and quality standards Manage daily job-site operations for underground utility and telecom construction projects Ensure work is performed safely, following company policies, OSHA, DOT, and project-specific requirements Promote and maintain a zero-incident safety culture Assign tasks, provide direction, and support ongoing training and development of crew members Monitor job and employee productivity and performance; identify issues and recommend corrective actions Operate heavy equipment and machinery as needed (e.g., backhoes, trenchers, plows, dozers, reel trailers) Assist with installation, repair, and maintenance of underground utilities and telecom systems Interpret blueprints, job specifications, and scope of work requirements Maintain accurate daily reports, including timecards, production logs, DOT paperwork, and redline drawings Track materials, tools, and equipment to ensure job-site efficiency The ability to use time blocking daily to efficiently execute goals Communicate project updates, changes in scope, and progress to supervisors or project managers Troubleshoot field issues and resolve problems as they arise Perform work in all weather conditions and across varying job sites Complete all assigned work within labor, material, and equipment budgets Required Qualifications & Experience High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience Valid driver's license (CDL preferred) Minimum of 3 years of related construction experience ; prior foreman experience preferred Experience in underground utilities and/or telecom construction Ability to read and interpret blueprints and job specifications Strong leadership, communication, and crew management skills Comfortable using electronic devices or computers for reporting, production tracking, and documentation Knowledge of safe operation of heavy equipment and construction tools with the ability to diagnose mechanical failures of heavy equipment and construction tools Ability to work independently and supervise crews in remote field locations Physical & Work Requirements Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions Physically fit to handle daily construction activities Ability to lift 55-75 pounds regularly Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb, and work in confined spaces or at heights or on uneven or unstable terrain Willingness to perform hands-on work alongside the crew Travel required within the United States Exposure to construction hazards, noise, and changing site conditions Preferred Skills & Knowledge Telecommunication construction experience (fiber, coax, splicing, directional drilling, aerial and underground work) Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities Experience training, mentoring, and coaching crew members Familiarity with production tracking and cost control Commitment to long-term project work and continuous improvement Compensation & Benefits Company provided vehicle Per diem Typically 3 to 4 week rotation schedule Paid time off, and holidays Medical, and dental 401(k) with company match Bonus program Training and education opportunities Cell phone allowance Years of service recognition starting at 2 years We invite you to check out our website at www.ncsmn.com for more information about our company!
