JOB SUMMARY A
Cement Foreman / Crew Leader performs and directs the physical labor to complete concrete flatwork and structural concrete projects. Understands the means, methods, and tools necessary to complete formwork for various concrete structures (floors, walks, sidewalks, roads, curb, stairs, walls, and footers) and to pour and finish surfaces. Plans and schedules work in multiple areas or on multiple jobs as needed.
CHARACTERISTIC JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Sets the forms that hold concrete to the desired pitch and depth, and align them. Checks the forms that hold the concrete to see that they are properly constructed. Utilize forms and rebar to prepare for structural concrete elements including stair, footer, foundations & walls. Job tasks spreads, levels, and smooth concrete, using rake, shovel, hand or power trowel, hand or power screed, and float. Must mold expansion joints and edges, using edging tools, jointers, and straightedge. Monitors how the wind, heat, or cold affect the curing of the concrete throughout the entire process. Must signal truck drivers to position trucks to facilitate pouring concrete, and move chute to direct concrete on forms. Produces rough concrete surface, using a broom. Operates power vibrator to compact concrete. Directs the casting of the concrete and supervises laborers who use shovels or special tools to spread it. Must mix cement, sand, and water to produce concrete, grout, or slurry, using a hoe, trowel, tamper, scraper, or concrete-mixing machine. Coordinate with project managers and superintendents to manage multiple project schedules All other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
Needs knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the pouring and finishing of concrete surfaces. Must understand construction math and its applications. Needs knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance and have knowledge of safe operating procedures to promote worker and public safety. Must have knowledge of the practical applications of engineering science and technology as it applies to the principles, techniques and procedures required to perform construction tasks. Must be proficient with the English language for both oral and written communication. Needs the ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions. Must perform physical activities that require considerable use of the arms and legs and moving the whole body, such as climbing, lifting at least 40 pounds is required, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials. Must have OSHA 10 hour construction safety training (minimum requirement). Must have other certifications as required for the work. Minimum 4 years of concrete forming and pouring experience with some supervision required.
