Job Description

Under direction, is responsible for supervising and participating in installing, testing, and repair residential and commercial electric meters; performs related duties as required. (Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all of the duties that may be performed.) Supervises a small crew of employees engaged in installing, testing, and repairing residential and commercial electric meters, to include performance evaluations, leave requests, and initiating disciplinary recommendations; Participates in all phases of installing, testing, and repairing electric meters used by city consumers such as in residential, commercial, street light, or solar field metering; Detects power distribution concerns utilizing metering data and implements solutions or further collaborates with power distribution, engineers, customers, and customer service to develop resolutions; Prepares work schedules for meter crews, installers, and repairers; trains employees on software programs utilized for meter installation, communication, and diagnostics; Ensures the accuracy of the records kept by the meter crew of all electric meters installed, removed, repaired, and/or tested; Installs and removes current and potential transformers related to metering devices; sets recording amperage and voltage meters; Removes, tests, and calibrates meters; investigates customers' complaints regarding high bill and low voltages; Ensures workers are following proper safety procedures; instructs workers in the proper use of equipment and safety procedures; Maintains accurate records of work performed and materials used; Supervises employees who perform turn on/off services for delinquent payment; May drive a truck to and from job sites Completion of the twelfth school grade and four (4) years of experience repairing or installing electric meters. Substitution(s): A certificate of high school equivalence (GED) will be accepted in lieu of the twelfth-grade completion requirement. Possession of a valid driver's license. The names of the applicants passing this administration of this exam will be used to create a
NEW, OPEN COMPETITIVE
, eligible list for this classification. If you are interested in having your name included on the new eligible list, you will need to apply for this exam within the filing period and successfully complete all phases of the testing process. Questions regarding this process can be directed to the Test Center at 614-645-7439. The examination process will consist of a computerized exam weighted 100% covering Supervision, Reading Comprehension, Problem Sensitivity, Logic and Reasoning, Information Ordering, Electricity Principles, and 2019/2021 Outlook, Word, and Excel. The exam is expected to be administered in June 2026. Approved applicants will be notified by mail/email of their scheduled test date and time. All applicants must complete all phases of the testing process in order to receive a final score. The names of all candidates who pass this examination will remain on the eligible list for two years, unless the eligible list is replaced prior to or extended beyond the two years. If a candidate's name is certified and the candidate is to be considered for employment, the hiring process will include one or more interviews, a criminal background check, and a pre-employment drug test.
