Hazel, Inc. , a total site development contractor for over 60 years, is looking for an experienced Pipe Foremen to lead and manage a pipe crew on site development projects. The role is responsible for directing and coordinating all underground pipe installation activities on site development construction projects. This includes storm drainage, sanitary sewer, and water main.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership & Crew Management Supervise and direct a crew of 5-8 including pipe layer, laborers, and equipment operators on a daily basis Assign tasks, monitor productivity, and maintain accountability for crew performance and attendance Train and mentor crew members on proper installation techniques, safety procedures, and company standards Communicate daily work plans, priorities, and schedule changes effectively to the crew Pipe Installation & Field Operations Oversee installation of storm drain, sanitary sewer, and water main Read and interpret construction drawings, grading plans, utility plans, and project specifications Ensure proper trench excavation, bedding, pipe grade, alignment, and backfill per plans and specs Coordinate with survey crews to verify grades, alignments, and elevations prior to and during installation Direct the safe and efficient operation of excavators, dozers, compactors, and pipe laying equipment Coordinate concrete and masonry work associated with manholes, inlets, headwalls, and junction structures Safety & Compliance Enforce all company, OSHA, and site-specific safety policies and procedures at all times Conduct daily toolbox talks and job hazard analyses (JHAs) before work begins Ensure proper trench shoring, shielding, or sloping is in place per

Subpart P Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area; report unsafe conditions immediately Participate in incident investigations and implement corrective actions as required Quality Control & Documentation Inspect materials upon delivery to verify conformance to specifications and reject non-conforming items Perform visual inspections and quality checks throughout the installation process Coordinate and support third-party inspections, compaction testing, and pipe deflection/leakage testing Maintain accurate daily field reports including crew hours, equipment usage, quantities installed, and site conditions Identify and document changed conditions, extra work, and potential change order items promptly Coordination & Communication Coordinate daily with the Project Superintendent, Project Manager, and other trade foremen to maintain workflow Interface with owners, inspectors, utility companies, and subcontractors as needed Communicate material, equipment, and manpower needs to the superintendent in advance to avoid delays Assist with look-ahead scheduling and identify potential conflicts or constraints before they arise
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience Minimum 5+ years of field experience in underground utility or site development construction Minimum 3+ years in a supervisory or lead role directing pipe installation crews High school diploma or GED required; completion of a trade apprenticeship program preferred Demonstrated experience with storm drain, sanitary sewer, and water main systems required Technical Skills Proficient in reading and interpreting civil engineering drawings, utility plans, and project specifications Working knowledge of pipe materials including RCP, HDPE, PVC, DIP, and CMP Ability to operate or direct the operation of excavation and pipe laying equipment Familiarity with laser levels, transit/total stations, and grade setting equipment Basic computer skills; ability to use tablet or mobile apps for daily reporting preferred Licenses & Certifications Valid driver's license required; OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification preferred (or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire) Confined Space Entry, Competent Person Excavation training preferred First Aid/CPR certification preferred Skills & Attributes Strong leadership presence with the ability to motivate and hold a crew accountable Excellent problem-solving skills and sound judgment in a fast-paced field environment High commitment to personal and crew safety Dependable, punctual, and capable of working independently with minimal supervision Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plusl
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires working outdoors in all weather conditions including extreme heat, cold, rain, and high-noise environments. The Pipe Foreman must be able to stand, walk, and work on uneven terrain for extended periods; lift and carry up to 75 lbs; enter and exit trenches and confined spaces; and operate handheld tools and equipment. The role requires full-time, on-site presence for the duration of assigned projects.
