Job Description

Job Summary Work is performed for the Highway Department and involves the semi-skilled operation of standard road machines and medium to light equipment, in the performance of manual labor associated with the construction and maintenance of county right-of-ways, roads, ditches, and storm sewers and dredges. Position also works on paving, patching, sign, and hydroscopic excavator crews and is subject to drive vehicles including, but not limited to, small single-axle dump trucks, the sign trucks, or flat-bed trucks. Duties and Responsibilities Operates standard road machines (jackhammers, cement vibrators, mixers, striping machines, tools, etc.) and medium to light equipment in the performance of manuals work associated with the construction and maintenance of county rights-of-way, roads, ditches, and storm sewers. Operates vehicles including, but not limited to, small single - axle dump trucks, the sign truck, or flat -bed trucks. Performs routine maintenance of machines, equipment, and tools used. Loads and unloads dirt, construction material and supplies from trucks and other vehicles. Cuts grass, weeds, and brush and clears job sites with hands tools and weed eaters. Cleans culverts, drains, and ditches. Loads and unloads trucks of tools, materials, and debris. Assists in the maintenance of county paved and dirt roads. Spreads sand, gravel, and asphalt. Removes obstructions, such as trees, from roads using hand and power saws. Carries sand, concrete, asphalt and cement. Applies patching materials to road surfaces. Flags and directs traffic during road construction. Assists skilled workers by carrying materials and tools, or performing unskilled tasks such as mixing mortar or drilling holes. Digs post holes and posts and removes road signs and fencing. Performs all duties in a safe and efficient manner. Performs all other duties as assigned by supervision. Qualifications and Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Six months of general labor experience, including the use of tools and equipment used in construction, maintenance and repair work. Class B CDL License required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Class A CDL License. Physical Demands & Work Environment
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is mostly performed outdoors in all types of weather (storms, rain, cold, heat, etc.). Extremes of cold and heat temperatures.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work is medium to heavy in nature consisting of lifting, walking, driving, pulling, pushing, bending. Exertion activities may required 20 -50 pounds of lifting, pushing, and pulling. Conditions of Job Offer and Employment
