Full Job Description Overview:
The mission of Home Builders Foundation is to build independence, provide opportunities and elevate lives for individuals and families with disabilities in our community. For 30 years, Home Builders Foundation has enabled individuals with disabilities and their families to live more independent, elevated lives. Our dedicated staff is passionate about expanding access, safety and comfort for the differently abled. We work closely with skilled volunteers and collaborative partners to come together to create home modifications that empower greater access, reinforce safety and equip clients the ability to tackle everyday tasks. Our goal is to continue to build upon our experience and expand how our services can better elevate lives for those in need.
Role Purpose:
This hands-on, field-based position of Construction Technician (CT) is responsible for completing many projects for HBF clients. Basic one-day projects include installing grab bars, railings, hinges, temporary ramps, and setting plumbing fixtures. Larger projects include bathrooms start to finish (demolition, installing drywall, setting tile, completing trim work, and painting), ramps (including leading volunteers to build the ramp), flooring, and more. The CT will also be responsible for working with HBF's staff to ensure compliance during and when closing out the projects with each client including, but not limited to permitting, punch list, inspections, and warranty. Success in this role will be achieved by completing a large number of work items and projects, at a high quality, in a specified amount of time, resulting in satisfied clients. Essential Job Duties Project Expectations
  • Respects and values the clients' needs and property while onsite
  • Works with HBF's Program Director and Construction Manager to complete the assigned projects in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Works well with third-party inspectors
  • Execute timely work that yields a high-quality outcome that reflects favorably on HBF's reputation.
  • Adjusts to unforeseen conditions on the projects
  • Works in a clean, safe and quiet manner
  • Properly uses, maintains and stores HBF tools Communication
  • Provides regular updates to the Program Director and Construction Manager on project activities and impacts
  • Communicates project happenings such as deliveries, onsite work and other project status information to keep the client informed of happenings on their property
  • Informs and educates client of proper use of completed work items upon completion
  • Use software platforms to report time worked, mileage and expenses
  • Utilize organization platforms to communicate in a timely manner Successful project completion that includes:
  • Full understanding and implementation of scope of work
  • Budget compliance
  • Material and tool coordination
  • Construction activities
  • Maintain a safe and clean worksite
  • Client satisfaction
Proper Documentation of Project Other Duties & Expectations:
  • Promotes the mission and vision of Home Builders Foundation
  • Adjusts to an ever changing, fast-paced, and challenging work environment
  • Contributes to staff meetings and supports the achievement of staff and organizational goals.
  • Establishes and maintains a collaborative working relationship with fellow team members
  • Other duties as assigned to move forward HBF's mission and values
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience:
Required:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 3-5 years of building industry project management experience
  • 3-5 years of hands on building
  • Experience in one or more remodeling trades (preferred tile, trim carpentry, drywall, HVAC, plumbing, electrical)
  • Must have at least basic tools (saws, drills, hammers, etc.)
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Knows good workmanship
  • Works well within a prescribed budget
  • Accepts objective feedback, repairs issues, and learns from input
  • Ability to work with all levels of the organization
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and handle several projects simultaneously
  • Proficient in English
  • Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and ability to travel throughout the Metro Denver area.
Physical/Mental Demands & Environment:
  • Must be able to meet local travel requirements
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must have reliable transportation and ability to haul materials
Preferred:
  • 5+ years in building/remodeling industry
  • Experience in one or more remodeling trades i.e. tile, trim carpentry, drywall, HVAC, plumbing, electrical
  • OSHA, CLIPPS, and CAPS certification (already received or willing to complete upon hiring) and knowledge/ acceptance of best practices for construction related to people with disabilities/ aging in place
  • Can lead volunteers in respectful and engaging manner
  • Ties to and/or currently living in Denver metro area
  • Experience with a non-profit
  • Strong oral and written skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and donor management software
