Job Description

HOURS:
Monday-Thursday 7:30AM to 5:30PM
JOB SUMMARY
This position performs semi-skilled and manual work in the operation of a variety of light and heavy equipment in the maintenance and repair of municipal streets, grounds, parks, buildings, and other City facilities as designated.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs a wide range of manual laboring tasks as assigned, including making repairs to streets (with asphalt or lime rock), storm pipes, manholes, inlets and sidewalks, landscaping, refuse collection, and general maintenance. Removes and installs concrete. Replaces or installs road signs. Clears trees, brush, and vegetation from roadside. Maintains grounds. Mows grass, rakes and picks up leaves, trash and debris, pulls weeds, digs up plants, shrubs, and trees and replants in other locations, lays sod, trims hedges, and spreads fertilizer. Digs, hoes, and shovels dirt, sand, clay, and other materials. Cleans restrooms, pool, pier and sweeps patios and other areas. Loads and unloads trucks. Tows equipment with trailers. Cleans ditches and culverts. Inspects and maintains equipment. Operates a wide variety of automotive vehicles and power and hand tools, including but not limited to front-end loader, Excavator, Street Sweeper, Vac-Con, dump truck, mower, chain saw, drill, and other related equipment. Washes and cleans equipment; assists in preventive maintenance of equipment and routine checks of fluids. Ability to lead and give directive to crew as assigned. Performs other related duties as assigned. Required to respond to after-hour emergencies
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of experience in semi-skilled manual labor and the use and operation of moderately heavy vehicles and equipment. Any equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered for the minimum qualifications.
Licenses or Certifications:
Possession of a valid Class "B" Florida Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and compliance with vehicle use policy requirements, Section 8.15(c) in the City's Personnel Manual. Tanker Endorsement Preferred.
Special Requirements:
This position is designated as a safety sensitive position.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of rules and regulations pertaining to safety and operation of equipment. Knowledge of operation and routine maintenance of moderately heavy equipment. Knowledge of practices, methods and materials used in public works construction and maintenance activities. Ability to perform strenuous physical labor in all weather conditions. Skill in operating equipment in rough, uneven, or slippery ground conditions. Skill in cleaning and maintaining equipment. Skill in the use of hand and power tools. Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions. Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees and the general public. Knowledge of safe working procedures. Understand Stormwater rules and regulations Ability to obtain Stormwater Operator Certification
I & II PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is heavy and requires exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force to move objects. Also requires the following physical abilities: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, manual dexterity, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed outside in varying weather conditions with dust, vibrations, fumes, and noise, at heights up to 15 feet, and below ground level/confined spaces. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily.
