Job Description

The Village of Milan is currently accepting applications for a Seasonal Laborer within the Water & Sewer Department, with a rate of $17.25 per hour.
Nature of Work:
A seasonal laborer performs a variety of manual and semi-skilled work supporting the maintenance of the Water & Sewer infrastructure, including fire hydrants, valves, and meters. Work will be supervised by the Water & Sewer Superintendent but does require a high level of intrinsic motivation to execute independent projects and maintain high productivity without direct oversight.
Examples of Essential Job Functions:
Performs fire hydrant flow tests and records accurate results in a hydrant status log to assist in creating an updated Village-wide hydrant survey report. Performs general maintenance on fire hydrants, including inspection, flushing debris, cleaning, lubricating, and painting, and ensuring clearance and accessibility around the hydrant. Assists with general building and grounds maintenance. May perform additional duties as required to maintain effective and efficient operations of the department.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to prioritize, schedule, and route daily work. Ability to document and maintain accurate records. Ability to spell correctly and use proper English. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions. Ability to perform manual duties requiring mechanical aptitude and dexterity. Ability to perform detailed work accurately and timely to the satisfaction of the supervisor. Ability to communicate and use interpersonal skills to interact with coworkers, supervisors, general public, etc., to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work direction. Ability to follow safety rules, utilizes PPE when appropriate, and work safely in construction sites and roadways.
Necessary Requirements:
Must be 18 years of age or older. Must be able to provide proof of US Citizenship or legal right to work in the United States. Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen. Possession and ability to maintain a valid state driver's license required.
Education:
Must have a high school diploma or GED.
Experience:
No experience required, but knowledge of traffic safety, painting, small hand tools, and ground maintenance preferred.

Mobility & Terrain:
Ability to walk, stand, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl for extended periods. May require working on rough, slippery, or uneven terrain.
Lifting & Carrying:
Regularly lifting, carrying, or moving items weighing up to 50 pounds, with occasional lifting or moving of up to 70 pounds.
Dexterity & Handling:
High manual dexterity to operate small hand tools, various equipment, etc.
Sensory Requirements:
Good close/distance vision and depth perception to operate vehicles and equipment safely. Regular talking and hearing to exchange information in person, over the phone or in meetings. Ability to understand instructions and be aware of surroundings.
Environmental Tolerance:
Ability to work in all types of weather, including extreme heat, cold, dust, or noise.
Physical Strength:
