in Springfield, Illinois, United States Job Description Laborers Local 477 supports Sangamon, Christian, Logan, Menard, Morgan, Scott & Cass counties. Instructors are dedicated to giving quality training in everything from Asbestos Abatement, General Construction, and Hazardous Waste Removal. They train more than 5,500 Union Laborers a year and offer an apprenticeship program to qualified men and women who are interested in a career as a construction craft laborer with all the advantages of the Laborers' Union…good wages, great health and welfare benefits and lots of advancement opportunities. Apprentices are paid a progressively increasing schedule of wages consistent with skills and knowledge acquired. The rate for each period is shown as a percentage of the skilled Construction Craft Laborer journey worker rate as specified in the collective bargaining agreement. All apprentices are required to obtain 1,000 hours of on-job-training, as well as 160 hours of related training each year of the program to wage progress to the next level.
