This role supervises renovation staff, apprentices, and volunteers, ensures quality and safety standards, and assists the Director with housing program and operational support as needed.. Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities Residential renovation, repair, and construction projects under the direction of the Director of MVPD. Perform and oversee construction projects to ensure project quality and timelines. Staff & Volunteer Leadership Supervise and train a full-time apprentice and part-time associate, providing instruction, mentorship, and performance feedback. Assist the Director to recruit, coordinate, and oversee volunteers assigned to construction and renovation projects. Lead hands-on training opportunities for assigned staff and volunteers. Promote a safe, respectful, and productive job-site environment for staff & volunteers. Project Planning & Scheduling Assist the Director in developing project scopes, budgets, & timelines prior to initiation. Track project progress and communicate updates, risks, and needs to the Director. Director Support & Program Assistance Assist the Director with program and administrative functions as needed, including tenant applications, and volunteer engagement. Serve as a secondary point of contact for housing-related matters in the Director's absence, when appropriate. Perform additional related duties as assigned to support departmental operations and ministry goals. Safety, Compliance & Stewardship Enforce jobsite safety standards and procedures to protect staff, volunteers, tenants, and visitors. Help protect occupied properties by coordinating work in a manner that prioritizes safety, dignity, and minimal disruption. Build and maintain positive working relationships with staff, volunteers, subcontractors, and community partners through professionalism and communication. Experience and Qualifications 2+ years of experience in residential construction, renovation, or a related field. Knowledge of construction methods, building systems, tools, and jobsite safety. Perform a variety of skilled labor tasks such as framing, plumbing, cabinet and countertop installation, painting, flooring, carpentry, and other construction-related activities. Ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage priorities effectively with minimal supervision. Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills. Willingness to support housing program and administrative needs as directed. Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings or weekends, as required. Preferred Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Experience working in a nonprofit or community development organization. Experience training or mentoring apprentices, interns, or entry-level staff. Familiarity with building codes, inspections, permits, and compliance processes is a plus. Experience coordinating or supervising volunteers or short-term mission teams. Experience supporting housing programs, tenant interactions, or community engagement initiatives. Relevant trade certifications, licenses, or formal training in residential construction. Bilingual (English/Spanish or English/Burmese). Familiarity with the Mount Vernon Park neighborhood or similar urban contexts. Work Conditions Combination of indoor/outdoor environments, including residential properties, construction sites, and office settings. Regular exposure to construction environments, tools, equipment, dust, noise, and varying weather conditions. Position requires frequent movement between job sites and properties. Occasional evenings and weekends may be required to support project timelines, volunteer activities, or urgent housing needs. Ability to respond to urgent situations as needed, which may require adjusted hours. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required to maintain jobsite safety. Access to reliable transportation for local travel between properties is required.. Physical Requirements Ability to safely walk, stand, and move throughout facilities and job sites for extended periods of time. Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to climb ladders, stairs, access elevated or confined spaces as needed. Ability to perform occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, required to operate tools.
