Job Description
ONYX CORPORATION, a family owned and operated company for 45 years, is hiring for a full-time Laborer in our Excavation Division. Onyx is an established and well-known staple in the surrounding communities that has gained our excellent reputation based solely on word of mouth and referrals from clients, architects, engineers and builders. Our work involves large scale public site work projects, high end residential landscape, and a sand & gravel operation.
Excavation Laborer:
The Excavation Laborer is responsible for pipe installation, trenching, concrete and/or masonry installation, cleaning & prepping construction work sites in a timely and effective manner as part of a work site crew.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Site work preparation to include digging trenches and backfilling holes Installation to include scaffolding setup, bracing, and temporary structure for site setup Loading and unloading site materials Assisting equipment operators and drivers with their duties Cleaning the work site by removing hazards, materials, and debris and disposing in a workmanlike manner
Required Skills/Abilities:
Have ability to follow specific verbal and written instructions Familiarity with grade elevations and project layout Ability to effectively communicate with other workers on site and report project status and issues that may arise to the site Foreman and Superintendent Aptitude in math Comfortable around large construction machinery and signaling to operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials Comfortable working in a fast-paced, safe team environment
Education and Experience:
Valid driver's license OSHA 10 certification DOT Certificate (acquired within one month after date of hire) Ability to pass a drug test. Minimum of 3-5 years' experience laboring in public or private excavation work
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to work in all types of weather, including extremely hot and extremely cold temperatures Must be able to lift and move up to 75 pounds Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and stand
