DELTA COUNTY ROAD COMMISSION JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE
Seasonal Highway Maintainer/Laborer- Ideal for Highschool Graduates or College Students!
GENERAL SUMMARY
Under the supervision of a District Superintendent & Foreman, maintains highways, municipal and rural roads and rights-of-ways in safe conditions. Since the work is seasonal, ability to cut brush, erect signs and other labor functions as needed.EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Drives truck and equipment to work site. (Light duty trucks only) Checks equipment daily to maintain efficient and safe operational status: Performs routine vehicle maintenance checks daily. Assists in the installing and maintenance of traffic control devices, signs, barricades, cones, etc. Controls traffic at work sites by flagging to guide traffic through work areas, as required or assigned, after completing "Traffic Control Training." May erect and repair guard rails, highway markers, etc. utilizing hand tools, nails, and power tools. Manually patches asphalt and seal coat roads also may work with Crack Sealing crew on various roadways throughout the summer. Washes and cleans equipment at District Garages. Sweeps and maintains truck storage areas at District I and District II. Operates lawn mowers and lawn equipment for upkeep at District Garages. May be utilized as a parts runner for maintenance Garage. (ADA): Physical Mobility- Ability to walk extended distances and climb ramps to access Commission and other work related locations and facilities. Vision and Sight
- Ability to read instruction, directions, and similar written information in letters, memoranda, forms and other documents. Hearing and Speaking
- Ability to converse orally with standard telephones and radios to receive and communicate information to employees and the public. Agility and Movement
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and manipulate tools, equipment, supplies, and other objects often weighing upwards to 80 pounds.
SAFETY EQUIPMENT
Hard hats, safety vests, gloves, safety eyewear, etc. will be supplies by the Delta County Road CommissionDESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
High School education, GED, or equivalent education preparation, ability to deal with the public courteously and effectively, ability to work satisfactorily with other employees, and ability to work extended hours.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be 18 years old or older with Valid Operators License.
