High School Diploma or equivalent and 6 months experience serving as a grounds, custodial, or maintenance laborer. Valid Driver's License. Experience operating grounds maintenance equipment. Ability to repetitively lift and carry 50 lbs. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to communicate effectively with supervisory staff.
Preferred Qualifications:
Equipment operation including, but not limited to; riding mowers, skid steer with attachments. Experience driving with trailers. Knowledge of horticulture and/or landscape construction. Ability to lead student workers on specific tasks.

Regular/Temporary:
Regular The Promotional Priority Period for current Teamster applicants begins 05/11 and 05/18. Landcare is an operations unit within Facilities Management, responsible for campus design and maintenance. This position performs a variety of manual labor tasks under the supervision / instruction of a front line staff member on the U of MN Twin Cities campus. The position will be required to drive University vehicles on campus and between campus facilities. Work may involve the use of various mechanized equipment requiring personal protective equipment (PPE). All required PPE will be provided by the employer. Depending on the tasks assigned, the position may be working independently or with a team.
Location and Work environment:
This position works almost exclusively outdoors and is exposed to year-round weather conditions such as heat, cold, rain and snow. Please note, this position is not eligible for H-1B or Green Card sponsorship. This position does not offer a
STEM OPT
training program.
Work Schedule:
Monday-Friday, 7:00am-3:30pm
Primary Responsibilities:
Regularly inspects campus grounds and parking facilities for cleanliness, and removes litter and trash for disposal at designated campus locations. Cleans and organizes campus facilities including Landcare depots and service yards, bus shelters, bike lockers/shelters, etc. Provides waste collection services for campus events. Assists with snow removal activities including hand shoveling, snow blowing, deicing chemical applications, and mechanized snow removal. Reports graffiti according to departmental procedures. May also assist with planting, watering, pruning, spreading mulch, pulling weeds, and other landscape maintenance and installation tasks as directed. May also operate landscape equipment including mowers, edgers, blowers, string trimmers, aerators, snow blowers, etc. May also clean, grease and assist with other routine equipment maintenance and repairs. Other tasks as assigned. Facilities Management is a department within University Services which is composed of the departments and people who deliver the non-academic operations across the University of Minnesota system. Facilities Management (FM) is responsible for all buildings, grounds and the energy management needs of the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus.
