Job Title:
Vacuum Excavation / Utility Support Technician (Laborer) Job Description This role supports a high‑volume water infrastructure project focused on exposing lead and copper water service lines and water meters as part of system upgrades and compliance efforts. You will perform straightforward, repetitive field tasks in a fast‑paced, production‑driven environment, working outdoors every day and contributing directly to critical improvements in community water systems. Responsibilities Support vacuum excavation and utility crews in exposing lead and copper water service lines and water meters for system upgrades and compliance work. Perform general labor tasks related to construction, underground utilities, and utility construction in a consistent and efficient manner. Operate or assist with vacuum excavation and hydrovac equipment under direction, ensuring safe and proper use at all times. Work productively in a high‑volume, fast‑paced environment while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail. Carry out repetitive, production‑focused tasks safely and consistently throughout the workday. Follow all safety procedures and protocols, maintaining a safety‑conscious mindset in the field. Take direction from supervisors and work collaboratively within a team setting to meet daily production goals. Maintain dependable attendance and be available to work overtime as needed to support project demands. Travel daily to various field sites across the Carolinas, Virginia, Georgia, and surrounding areas as project needs require. Contribute to a positive, collaborative work culture by supporting teammates, communicating clearly, and helping solve problems in the field. Essential Skills Strong work ethic with a reliable and hard‑working approach to daily tasks. Comfort working outdoors in varying weather conditions for the full workday. Ability to maintain pace and productivity in a high‑volume, fast‑paced environment. Willingness to perform repetitive, production‑focused tasks safely and consistently. Safety‑conscious mindset and ability to follow detailed instructions and procedures in a team setting. Dependable attendance and flexibility to work overtime as needed. Comfort with general labor, construction, underground utilities, or field work, whether through experience or strong interest. Ability to travel to different job sites in the Carolinas, Virginia, Georgia, and nearby regions. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience in general labor, utilities, construction, underground utilities, or field work is preferred but not required. Experience with utility work, vacuum excavation, hydrovac operations, or field labor is preferred. Interest in utilities, water infrastructure, or subsurface utility engineering (SUE) is a plus; training is provided. Desire for steady work with opportunities for overtime and exposure to utility and civil engineering projects. Interest in professional growth, training, and mentoring opportunities, including tuition reimbursement and online learning. Motivation to do work that has a direct, positive impact on local communities. Work Environment This position is 100% field‑based, with daily work performed outdoors in varying weather conditions. You will travel to job sites across the Carolinas, Virginia, Georgia, and surrounding areas, working on active utility and water infrastructure projects. The environment is fast‑paced and production‑driven, with a strong emphasis on safety, teamwork, and consistent performance. You will work with vacuum excavation and hydrovac equipment, as well as standard tools used in general labor and underground utility work. The role offers steady work, regular opportunities for overtime, and exposure to utility and civil engineering projects. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Charlotte, NC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $21.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
