Job Description
Job Title:
General Laborer - Concrete Construction Job Description This role supports concrete cutting and general construction activities on both local projects and a long-term mission-critical facility project located approximately two hours south of Fargo in the Ellendale, ND area. You will primarily assist foremen and equipment operators with concrete cutting and related tasks, working mostly indoors with some outdoor work in varying weather conditions. This is a hands-on position ideal for individuals who enjoy physical work, want steady year-round employment, and are open to occasional travel during the week. Responsibilities Assist foremen and equipment operators with concrete cutting and related tasks on construction sites. Perform general labor duties including site preparation, material handling, and jobsite cleanup. Support concrete work such as foundation and flatwork activities as directed. Work on mission-critical facility projects, following all site procedures and safety guidelines. Operate or assist with light construction equipment such as skid steers under supervision, if trained. Work primarily indoors (approximately 90% of the time), with about 10% of work performed outdoors in varying weather conditions. Travel to out-of-town projects, including the Ellendale, ND area, as needed during the week. Meet at the shop each morning, ride or drive to job sites, and return to the shop at the end of the day. Lift, carry, and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis. Follow all safety protocols and use appropriate personal protective equipment as required. Collaborate with a crew of 3-4 team members to complete daily tasks efficiently. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment on all job sites. Essential Skills Valid driver's license. Ability to perform physically demanding work, including regularly lifting up to 50 pounds. Willingness to work both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions. Reliability to meet at the shop between approximately 6:30 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. and work until around 5:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Openness to extended hours during the peak summer season. Ability and willingness to travel to out-of-town projects during the week when needed, including overnight stays. Strong work ethic and ability to follow directions from foremen and experienced operators. Entry-level candidates accepted; 1-2 years of construction or concrete experience is preferred for higher starting pay. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience in construction or outdoor work such as lawn care, landscaping, or concrete is preferred but not required. Experience on foundation or flatwork concrete crews is a plus. Background in underground construction crews, framing, or trade apprenticeships is beneficial. Familiarity with concrete work and concrete cutting is an advantage. Experience operating skid steers or similar construction equipment is helpful. Basic carpentry skills are a plus. Comfort working in small crews of 3-4 people. Why Work Here? You join a team that values stability, keeping employees on the payroll year-round rather than cycling through seasonal layoffs. The organization offers consistent construction work with opportunities to gain experience on mission-critical facility projects and grow your skills in concrete and general construction. Travel assignments include paid drive time, covered hotel stays, and daily per diem, adding extra value for those willing to work out of town. The culture emphasizes hard work, reliability, and teamwork, providing a solid environment for individuals looking to build a long-term career in the trades. Work Environment You work in a construction setting, primarily focused on concrete cutting and related tasks. Approximately 90% of the work takes place indoors, with about 10% outdoors where you may be exposed to the elements. Typical crews consist of 3-4 people, and collaboration and communication are important. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, generally meeting at the shop between 6:30 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. and finishing around 5:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., with extended hours expected during the peak summer season. You typically remain on the payroll all year, though winter hours may be reduced to part-time. The role is physically demanding and requires regularly lifting up to 50 pounds and working on your feet throughout the day. Travel to the Ellendale, ND area and similar out-of-town projects may be required; for these assignments, drive time is paid, hotel accommodations in Aberdeen, SD are provided, and a daily per diem is offered for each day worked.
