Job Description

Job Overview The Seasonal Laborer is responsible for providing traffic control and ensuring the safety of motorists, pedestrians, and construction crews in and around roadway construction and maintenance zones. This position supports highway department operations through flagging duties, work zone setup, and general labor activities as assigned. There is an immediate opening for this position, and the job will end on September 30, 2026 (end of construction season). The work week is Monday through Thursday, 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
Responsibilities :
Direct and control traffic through highway and road construction zones using approved flagging procedures and equipment. Set up, maintain, and remove traffic control devices including cones, signs, barricades, and warning lights. Communicate effectively with crew members using radios, hand signals, and verbal instructions to maintain safe traffic flow. Monitor work zones for safety hazards and report unsafe conditions immediately. Assist highway crews with roadway maintenance, repairs, and cleanup activities as needed. Perform manual labor including lifting, carrying, shoveling, and moving materials or equipment. Maintain awareness of surrounding traffic and changing roadway conditions at all times. Follow all departmental safety policies, OSHA regulations, and work zone safety standards. Operate basic hand tools and equipment as required. Perform other related duties as assigned. Physical Requirements Frequently standing, walking, bending, lifting, and carrying up to 50 pounds. Ability to work in heat, cold, rain, and other outdoor conditions. Vision and hearing sufficient to monitor traffic and communicate with crew members. Working Conditions Work is performed primarily outdoors on active roadways and construction sites with exposure to traffic, noise, dust, and changing weather conditions. Appropriate safety equipment and training will be provided. Experience Ability to remain alert and focused in high-traffic environments. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Ability to work safely around moving vehicles and heavy equipment. Valid New York State driver's license required

$23.38 per hour
