Job Description

Backhoe Operator/Laborer 115 Spring Valley Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202 $23
  • $30 an hour

  • Full-time Guilford Water Authority is seeking an experienced heavy equipment operator/laborer to assist in the construction of water mains, repairing leaks, and service line installation.
Minimum of two years experience operating a backhoe, track hoe, skid loader and mini excavator required. A Class B CDL is also required. This is a 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. position with mandatory on call hours.
Responsibilities:
  • Assist in service line installation
  • Assist in repairing main and service line leaks
  • Construction of water mains
  • Repair leaking meters
  • Fire hydrant maintenance
  • Perform flagging and traffic control on jobsite when needed
  • Install and repair meters as necessary
  • Program and install MXUs
  • Assist in rechecks and rereads
  • Monthly meter reading
  • Help flip meter lids yearly
  • Terminate water service
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
  • Basic knowledge in plumbing is helpful
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Must be able to work well with others and as part of a team
  • Understand and carry out verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to perform physical labor. Must be able to stand, bend and squat for periods of time.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools
  • Ability to work with minimal guidance and prioritize tasks
  • Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions (extreme hot, cold, rain, snow ect.)
  • Must be available for on-call emergencies when scheduled
