Job Description

We are seeking a General Laborer - Railroad that is responsible for performing physical labor and maintenance work on railroad tracks, equipment, and facilities. This position supports the safe and efficient operation of rail systems through tasks such as inspecting tracks, replacing ties and rails, clearing brush, and operating various tools and machinery. Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions and may require travel, overtime, and irregular hours.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Assist with construction, maintenance, repair, and inspection of railroad tracks and related infrastructure. Load, unload, and distribute track materials (rails, ties, spikes, ballast, etc.). Operate hand tools and power tools such as spike mauls, tie tongs, rail saws, grinders, tampers, and hydraulic jacks. Remove and replace defective ties, rails, and fasteners. Clear brush and debris from track areas to ensure safe access and visibility. Follow safety guidelines and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times. Assist with setting up and securing work zones to prevent accidents. Perform routine maintenance and inspections under the direction of a foreman or supervisor. Maintain cleanliness and organization of tools, vehicles, and job sites. Participate in safety meetings and training sessions. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent (preferred). Previous railroad, construction, or general labor experience is a plus but not required. On-the-job training is typically provided.
Skills & Abilities:
Ability to lift 50 lbs regularly and perform strenuous physical labor. Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions. Ability to work irregular hours, weekends, holidays, and travel as needed. Ability to follow instructions and safety protocols. Strong teamwork and communication skills. Must be able to pass drug screening, background check, and physical evaluation.
Work Environment:
Outdoor work environment with exposure to moving trains, loud noises, extreme weather, dust, and uneven terrain. Use of heavy equipment and hand tools required. Must be able to stand, bend, kneel, climb, and walk long distances on uneven surfaces.
